Supporting a candidate doesn't mean you have to be an a-hole
I want to recommend that we all (myself included) focus more on the positives of our candidate and less on being negative to someone else. I also think we should ask ourselves:

1) Is what I am saying fair? Am I presenting things in a light that distorts reality?

2) Am I being respectful and considerate to those with other views?

Come On DUers, we can do better than the petty back and forth attacks!

3. Obvious flamebait.
I believe there are rules against calling for civility in GDP. I've alerted the mods. Take it somewhere else, troll.

4. OK, I'll give it a try.
Obama CAN win the nom without having SD's undo the will of the voters
Obama represents our best chance of winning in the GE
Obama has done a good job of staying out the pockets of the whores on K Street.
Obama is a uniter who has the ability to energize and mobilize.

Sorry, that's about as delicate as I can get on this sensitive and emotionally charged issue.

5. Your post reminds me of an old Bill Cosby skit in which he said...
"I said to a guy, 'Tell me, what is it about cocaine that makes it so wonderful?' and he said, 'because it intensifies your personality.' I said, 'Yes, but what if you're an asshole?'"

Same could be said of political campaigns.

12. Wow. I gave this thread its first rec. That is a bad prognostic sign for DU.
If I was a mod, I would make people post at least one nice thing about every candidate (their own and the opponent) even if it was only "Her hair is always nice and shiny!" and one bad thing about McCain before they could go back to bashing the opposition. That would give us a 3 to 4 positive ratio.

16. Good idea. I'll start that right now... here we go... I'm voting for Hillary but I think Obama
is a great speaker. And don't think I'm saying that's all he has, it is not, but hear me out. That is a great benifit that Hillary doesn't have. Oratory skills can change minds, and sway other leaders of the world. He will be in a great position to help patch up the badly damaged reputation that America has in other countries.

13. I think the problem on these forums is that posters here are
taking this thing personally, and they shouldn't. There is nothing personal about this, I don't care how many times you've driven people to the polls, or how much money you've donated, or if you really really need that health insurance (which both candidates are offering)... it's not personal. It's politics. We should be able to detach ourselves and discuss issues. In the General Election it might become a LITTLE more personal because there are then major differences in policy. There are not MAJOR differences in policy in the primaries, justs personality. The most major difference is Obama stating that he was against the war before he joined the Senate. After joining he has voted very similar to Hillary. Discuss ISSUES. Discuss how you feel about health care in a civil manner. Don't discuss things that are personal. If you can't seperate it from personal issues then it says something about you. I think Bill Maher put it very well. Maher does not support Clinton in this election, but he said... "If you HATE Clinton that doesn't say anything about her... that says something about YOU."

I read a poster (who is nameless, and I don't even remember their name) on DU a good while back that said "I really really want this win, no one I've ever supported has won before!" How ridiculous, this election isn't about a single person. This isn't about you getting your victory lap and getting to gloat to all of your friends about how you FINALLY backed a winner. Stop getting involved emotionally. And anyone who says "it's emotional because of all the dead people in iraq," or some other such BS needs to look at the voting records of both candidates. Step back and look at it impartially. I have been very impartial on these forums and pointed out serious faults with all candidates. I have also pointed out huge positives from each candidate. I have no problem doing that, but many people do.
