You understand very well the meaning (and frustration) of my OP.

It's gotten to the point where I'm hesitant to ask an honest question because I'm accused of flaming, and then the warring factions go at one another's remarks and dissolve into name calling and absurd "truths" about the others' candidate.

DU is a great resource for me (seriously) and I've learned a LOT. But more and more when I try to get neutral input to help me understand a situation or issue, I just get slammed. Unfairly. There are those who consistently are able to step back and be helpful, but I have to wade through SO MUCH CRAP to find those responses. It depletes me emotionally.

Why do you only mention Obama's name? I mentioned both Obama and Hillary in my subject line, as they each have some very 'enthusiastic' supporters.

Or, are you assuming I'm an Obama supporter?

My problem isn't with the candidates, or who supports whom, but what we seem to have become.

I remember a few months ago when you were fairly new, I think. You were supporting someone else and there were still a bunch of us for Gore. We were getting a lot of flak for holding out for Gore and were starting to feel a little beleaguered. When he won the Nobel you came in the Gore forum and congratulated us on our fine candidate, which I and many others thought was a truly classy thing to do.

And now, after a few months down in the snake pit of GD-P, here is that nice poster gately telling the a$$holes to STFU. LOL! This forum seems to bring out a side in all of us -- myself very much included -- that is not truly representative of how we normally are, either in real life or in other DU forums. But you know, I think that even if Mother Theresa and Gandhi themselves were posting in here we'd be seeing the fur fly between 'em once in a while.

I've heard thing were nasty back in '04, but this long drawn out process has made it even worse this time. I'll just be glad when we're thru this part. Praying we'll see it resolved by June at the latest.
