MSNBC Anchor - does it have legs?

The woman in the 1PST time slot on MSNBC discussing Obama's "white" comment. She asked her guest if it's "got legs". Her guest says she's not sure, they'll have to wait to see "what Saturday Night Live was going to do with it". The anchor says that "words do matter" and they went to commercial.

This wasn't a joke. They were serious.


I'm telling you, this stretch of reporting this last week is somewhere between tragic and utterly pathetic. The reporting on this, this type of "discussion on race" is so very far from what an intelligent person would accept, it's jaw dropping.

She is not a journalist at all. She is a model sitting in a big chair reading things from a prompter. Her silly questions lack the depth of a kiddie pool. One of the first things you notice when you travel abroad to other western nations is that there's actually thoughtful analysis and substantive commentary in the mass media.

What passes in America for mainstream "news" would be relegated to tabloid status (and judged accordingly).

On her first visit to the states, a British friend of mine commented to me" "Don't you have ANY news here AT ALL? Everything I've seen is drech."

This isn't candidate specific and I'm not whining about Obama's coverage. Hillary gets hit hard too.

But my goodness, some of this stuff is like the runnup to the war. There's so much analysis of the "mushroom cloud", that finding out whether it's real never happened. We should have handled these issues after the War. This is a problem, I think this country needs to tackle that's as important as anything. The organization and purpose of our "4th estate".
