The single most dire GDP pathology
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 09:19 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
It's not the rudeness, the slur nicknames or even the constant lying.

It's what follows from the ironic exposure of hypocrisy. I've done it. I enjoy tweaking people's vanities and intellectual inconsistencies. We've probably all done it...

One side pursues a fantastically stupid line of argument. The other side denounces it as fantastically stupid, but then turns it around, adopting the selfsame level of idiocy to make an ironic post-textual meta-point about stupidity that is, when you step back from it, just more stupidity.

It's an arms race of irony; a cycle of the promotion of all things fantastically stupid.

Sure, it's okay to do to be funny. When done well it's hilarious. But it seems to have moved well past humor into some quasi-serious realm. "Using your side's definitions, this would be a big scandal..." "I can post from Newsmax because your side started posting from Newsmax..." "If the same standard was applied to X, then someone would post this lie..."

The result is that people are now posting pictures of Bill Clinton shaking hands with Jeremiah Wright. Thank about this... if Wright is so bad that merely shaking hands with him is a scandal, then Obama obviously ought to drop out of the race. And if Wright is a true patriot who is right about everything, then what's the smear? It makes no sense at all... is it supposed to be good or bad or a joke or what?

I doubt anyone even knows anymore. It's like THE SIMPSONS episode set at Lollapalooza where one slacker says something and his buddy says, "Is that ironic or serious?" The guy shrugs and says, "I don't know anymore."

Let's try posting what we really think about things for a change. The fact that someone you consider to be an idiot would say it isn't really the best reason to say something.

1. I agree with you, but good luck with that.
This place is so far gone, nobody will ever agree with anything, and talking issues? Out of the question.

It's all just dueling propaganda at this point, and it saddens me to think it'll get worse before it gets better.

3. If Wright is so bad that
merely shaking hands with him is a scandal... Hmmmmm.

Maybe all this shows is that Wright isn't nearly as bad as some seem to portray him.

I've seen posts that inply that Wright has been preaching all this hate for 20 years and Obama should have known about it.

Well, then again, maybe not. Maybe his rants were few and far between.

5. Exhibit A.
Rosalyn Carter was photographed with John Wayne Gacy. That must mean that maybe Gacy wasn't as bad as people say.

Or maybe it means that being photographed with someone isn't a substantive connection...

12. Way to try to cover up the truth, you partisan.
It's all so obvious. The photo proves beyond all doubt that John Wayne Gacy was married to Jimmy Carter.

4. Nice post but
the Hill Bots are the ones on here posting links to Hannity about Wright. I log on and see DEM Underground members posting links about the story, to me that makes them worthless, It should be all of us working together.

7. This intelligent OP will probably be burried under the torrent of hysterical
OPs about passports, Rev. Wright and recent polls.

All which will be washed away in another week by a different trifector.

It makes you wonde what gems of wisdom were washed away in the last few days.

And the real irony is that for a thread to really stay up and get exposure their has to be some hook on which the most rabid fanatics can come back and argue passionately about along the lines of 'how many angels can fit on the head of a pin'.

One had a silly thread that included 'left handed' in the title was around for 10 days.

9. wait, you're defending the hypocrisy of condemning Wright after Clinton used him as spiritual cover?
To decode most treatises by Clinton peeps, just imagine the author is talking about him/herself or Hillary (e.g., "Keith Olbermann needs to get a freaking grip!", "...or even the constant lying"). Thanks to projection, the official defense mechanism of Hillary '08, the OP has to reckon with the implied hypocrisy of Bill Clinton leaning on Rev. Wright for BJ support then dumping him in the gutter at the earliest convenience, which means calling Obama supporters hypocrites for pointing out the hypocrisy. Oh the hued Hannity! Pathology, heal thyself.

13. I think you're looking at this backwards
"The result is that people are now posting pictures of Bill Clinton shaking hands with Jeremiah Wright. Thank about this... if Wright is so bad that merely shaking hands with him is a scandal, then Obama obviously ought to drop out of the race. And if Wright is a true patriot who is right about everything, then what's the smear? It makes no sense at all... is it supposed to be good or bad or a joke or what?"

You're assuming that these pictures are posted to claim that Clinton has a scandal. These posts are not made to say "Well you're just as bad" (which seems to be a favorite Clinton argument on many issues such as war, but I digress) The idea of showing Bill and Wright together is to say "If he's so fucking awful that nobody should associate with him at all, then what is Bill doing with him?" The logical conclusion that the poster hopes you to draw is "Oh, well then, if Clinton sought his approval then maybe he is not Black America's answer to Bin Laden."

18. Nobody should be posting from Newsmax as a serious news source
Nobody should be posting from Charles Krauthhammer. Nobody should be posting from Michelle Malkin. As serious sources. They are not serious sources no matter who your candidate is.
