Do you think the discussion on race will lead to discussion on other kind of prejudices?
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 03:31 PM by AGirl
I want to make a post that is not something about the 2 leading candidates - I don't care who wins.

But lets talk about what realistic impact do you think Obama's speech will have on America? Or if any?

I have been hard on Obama for his speech, but I think he did a good job on showing the complexity of the black - white race issue in America.

1. As best I can tell we are not having a discussion about race.
We are watching a media driven political event about race bias.

I personally have been having actual discussions about race for more than four decades - with friends and members of my family of different races. The conversations about race differences/sameness/understanding/insight should be people actually talking to each other.

2. I think the only reason Obama might be better than Hillary is if he can convince Americans to be
rational and intelligent on politically charged issues.

3. If you think that you know nothing about the Clintons.
In particular, Bill Clinton.

5. I shudder to imagine a discussion of these or other prejudices here on DU, because...
it seems that a lot of people view "discussion of prejudices" as an invitation to unleash a mental septic tank onto the board. I have seen hatred here in the last week that I wouldn't even expect republicans to say out loud.
