Poll Finds Kerry's Image Took Beating
May 4, 3:10 PM (ET)

By WILL LESTER

(AP)

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrat John Kerry's image has taken a beating with the public in the last month after more than $60 million worth of advertising by President Bush's re-election campaign and a steady barrage of Republican criticism.

A poll released Tuesday found that Americans were slightly more likely to say they hold a favorable view of Kerry, 38 percent, than an unfavorable view, 33 percent. In mid-March, 40 percent had a favorable view and 24 percent had an unfavorable view of Kerry, according to the University of Pennsylvania's National Annenberg Election Survey.

In 18 battleground states, people were almost evenly split on Kerry, with 36 percent viewing him unfavorably and 35 percent viewing him favorably - down from 41 percent favorable and 28 percent unfavorable in mid-March.

14. Hopefully the exact same thing
People are so dumb that the ad they see the most determines who is doing the best job. I hate sheeple.

5. And look at how high the percentage of undecideds is
Many people are waiting to make up their minds. It's still quite early.

3. ya have to wonder. . .
WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING. . .?

Condi's lies, the distortions about Iraq, Woodward's corroberation of that, his secretive testimony before the 9/11 commission, the heinously inhumane treatment of mostly innocent Iraqi detainees, more casualties in a month than during the war, no WMD's, treason regarding Ms. Plame. . .

What's it going to take. . .?

7. Actually, this poll has Bush's unfavorable rating at 37 percent
about the same as Kerry's.

BTW, the article also has a N.H. poll with Kerry leading Bush by 4, 49-45. Good news!

9. This poll has chimp's
numbers MUCH higher than I've seen them elsewhere, I'd take this whole poll with a big grain of salt. Everything I've seen indicates that rove flushed a huge wad of $$ down the toilet with these attack ads. I believe Kerry should receive a large bounce from his positive ads that are just coming out.

11. For some reason, the Annenberg survey
Edited on Tue May-04-04 04:20 PM by lancdem
always has Bush's numbers higher than everyone else. They had his approval in the mid-50s when other polls had him averaging in the high 40s. Check it out on http://www.pollingreport.com

we are doing good. We may see more darkness before the dawn, however.

8. $60 million produces a -2% in "favorability". This is a "beating"? n/

10. Its not the favorbility that went down, its the unfavorabilitiy that has
gone up.

12. It would appear
the ads haven't hurt Kerry as much as they'd like us to believe.

Kerry 46% Bush 43%

Bush 43%
Kerry 46%
Other 5%
Not Sure 5%

Tuesday May 04, 2004--For the second straight day, the Rasmussen Reports Presidential Tracking Poll shows Senator John F. Kerry with 46% of the vote and President George W. Bush with 43%.

This is the first time Kerry has held a three point edge in nearly a month (since April 7 and 8). He has not held a three point advantage for three consecutive days since March

13. Like it or not
there is something to this. Kerry really should have gained quite abit in these last couple of months. All the news for Bush has been bad. The war has gone bad, the 9/11 commission had gone bad, the economy is weak, he had that awful press conference. Bush has gone down considerably in the last 2 months with virtually no change in Kerry's numbers. Kerry needs to make the sale while the making is good. We can't count on bad news forever.
