2. Shows the perceived problem Clinton has
Many don't buy her "35 years of experience" because she did a lot of what she did not as an elected official but as the wife of one. She needs to tout those programs that were implemented because of her efforts and talk of her record as a Senator more. If not, the perception shown in this cartoon is bound to persist.

3. More than persist
It will be openly mocked by the RW in the GE.

Hell, they will use her own 3am commercial against her.

9. It's grounded (imho) in the view of politics as cronyism. (Think about it.)
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 11:19 AM by TahitiNut
It's not uncommon for the "political establishment" to advocate the spouse of a recently-deceased Representative or Senator for the vacated office, at least on an interim basis. The only way I can see this making sense is that it's assumed (observed?) that a large part of the office is "WHO you know" not "WHAT you know." We call it networking. We call it cronyism. It's a pervasive factor in everything from community service to job-hunting to professional politics.

It doesn't take a microscope to see it in the Cheney/Bush regime ... the presumption that Junior's pals, including Prince Bandar (Bandar Bush), afford Junior some resource that give him some opportunity to do "good things" for the peasants. In effect, it's unchanged from the medieval days of feudalism. Courtiers. Aristocrats. (People without the skills to actually work for a living.)

Indeed, both "Qualification by association" and "Guilt by association" are corollaries to this worldview of political representation by crony capitalists. It's the sword being swung at Obama ... crediting him with the crony of Wright.

I think it demonstrates how appallingly irrational we've gotten. We actually invite corruption when we embrace such thinking.

5. K&R for funny and ironic...
... given that MTL did have an enormous sense of entitlement, and her son had to have her committed to a mental facility due to her delusional beliefs and actions.

11. How many supporters of Sen.Clinton confident in her ability to lead because
of Bill's experience? eg, if she finds herself over her head, he'll know what to do?
Would her supporters be as confident in her readiness if she were not married
to Bill Clinton? This is a sincere question by the way, I'm not interested in an
argument about it, especially one about sexism.

16. I unfortunately cannot answer those questions for you.
I will support her, but her claims of "experience" are only of the fact that she lived in the same house as Bill.
