Has anybody seen this?
“It was a speech written to mau-mau the New York Times editorial board, the network production people and the media into submission. Beautifully calibrated but deeply dishonest,” said GOP media consultant Rick Wilson, who crafted the ad in 2002 tying then-Sen. Max Cleland to Osama bin Laden. “Not good enough.”

"Mau-mau"? WTF? I can't believe Rick Wilson (who, as you can see, crafted the 2002 ad linking Sen. Max Cleland to Osama bin Laden) would say such an outright racist thing. Can you imagine the uproar if a Democrat did the same thing? Jesus.

10. And refuse new understanding?

I didn't know what mau mau meant, either, until I looked it up.

Frankly, I think the term was misused in the context quoted in the OP, but I get the point that was being made--and it was racist.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mau-Mau

I remember the name Mau-Mau from some movie somewhere. I forgot where. I bet if I looked it up in IMDB, I'll find it (muMs was in that movie)

Oh, of course. The Spike Lee movie - "Bamboozled"

11. As the Mau Mau revolt was an African uprising against
colonial rule in Kenya in the 50s, to "mau mau" somebody into submission is not only a racist inference, but a grammatically incorrect one at that - mau mau is not a verb, never has been.
