What does your family look like?
Does your family look like the Cleavers or the Romney's? Even the Bush and the McCain families do not look like the Romneys since they have what Poppy referred to as the "little brown ones" numbered among their grandchildren. Do they look like the Clintons? How many families look like Obama's family in this nation? Are these families becoming more numerous and how do we as a society address the needs of families like Obama's and mine? What does your family look like?

In my family, the wee littlest one is a very fair, tow-headed roly-poly with eyes like pieces of sky. We range in all shades of fair or olive, eyes of blue, hazel, green, and liquid brown, all the way up to a much loved Papa with skin like the night and eyes so dark you cannot discern their pupils. We are a mixture of traditions and heritages, but we are American. Some of the lines go back their arrival pre-Revolution in America, others, came in the 1800s, others the early 20th century, and some of us have arrived in my lifetime.

Which America would you like to be represented? What does your family look like in this century?

2. who gives a sh*t?
My family is all dead. Some (1/2 of them) were Native Americans. Need I explain why most of my family is dead/non-existent (hint: Federal policy/Native Americans)? Got anymore smallpox laced blankets around? :grr:

6. Your post brings up a valid point.
Families these days in the US are more of a melting pot than ever before. My parents grew up at a time when people mostly married within their own ethnic group and religion. They certainly did. However, my generation tossed out those "rules" and married people of a variety of ethnic and religious backgrounds, so that my Catholic daughter has a Mormon aunt, Jewish cousins, and an adopted cousin from China. She's proud of the diversity in her family, and so are we.

10. I was talking about this with a couple of my kids just the other night.
In just 3 generations we have quite a melting pot of our own. We range in skin color from very pale to very dark, eyes from pale blue to dark brown and hair color from light blond to black. In our family we have: Scandinavian, European, Native American, Asian and Polynesian. There is not any Latino or African American heritage represented at this time. Maybe that will be the for next generation.

11. Ever wonder why the political establishment and the talking heads
don't really look like us? Yet they have control of the decisions and the message.

Change is overdue.
