1. I feel the net result of this speech, is to solidify him as the "black candidate"
I see a net loss.

4. Then you didn't LISTEN to his speech. It solidified him as a MULTIRACIAL candidate
and that's a GOOD thing.

7. That's your opinion, the rose-colored glasses and all,
but it won't fly in "middle America". Sorry, but this is no help to him in the GE.

take off the hillbot colored glasses
it'll fly or not depending on how the media presents it to middle Ameria. Kinda tough shit for hilly that the media's likely to apin it very much in Obama's favor.

29. Now cali, you know I am not a Hillary supporter.
I do not share the view that this will ,ultimately, be "spun" in Obama's favor, that jury is still out.

24. Au contraire, my friend. His speech is heavily peppered with references to differenct races
thereby drawing the division between black, brown, white and yellow. Instead of saying "we" he said "me, and you, and you, and you". This sets a division between groups.

13. I agree.
It was more of a sermon than a speech - and not a particularly good sermon. He talked about but delivered nothing about the way out of our racial divides. His only passion is for himself to be elected President because he is "black". That is not a platform for an election.

His whole idea of how to "perfect" our republic is to elect him - could he be more arrogant?

2. He was really "bleeding" to begin with.
But this did show true leadership and strength of character, unlike we have seen from a major politician in many, many years.

In the end, it pretty much sealed the deal for him as the dem nominee.

He did a LOT of good for himself today.

5. It changed the entire discussion, FIrst off Muslim is off the table, secondly it should help
everyone discuss the reality of divisions within our nation.

He needed to do this the same way JFK needed to address his religion, and he did it very very well.

6. Yes, he stopped it....
He reminded people of his own WHITE upbringing by his grand parents.

He ended the absured notion that he's a black radical.

He reminded people he's a Christian.

He stopped the smear campaign the right (and by her silence, Hillary) had been using against him.

16. He HAS been losing support since the Wright videos have been shown and discussed on and on...
His approval from white voters was falling in this past week. I think he put an end to that and will reverse it.

38. Really? Obama picked up 9 caucus delegates in Iowa yesterday!
Iowa is 92% white. There has been no dramatic change- yet. We'll see what happens- it depends on how our "fair and balanced" *cough* *cough* media handles it; what soundbites hey decide to play for us ad nauseum.

39. I know. But I'm talking about white people in PA mostly and a slight fall in the polls
nationally, with a poll out today that 56% of people are less likely to vote for him due to Wright's statements.

17. He hit one out of the park!
This is one of the truly great speeches that we'll be hearing about 50 years from now.

He retook control of the media narrative - there's no way the MSM can dismiss this speech.

He may have well won himself the Presidency today.

Time will tell. I really admire his honesty though, either way. He said a lot of things that politicians DO NOT SAY, under any circumstances.

I think white America will vote for a black candidate, but not for someone they feel is an "angry black candidate". The speech, to me, was inspiring, and as good as it could possibly have been; but to many, it will only affirm that Obama refuses to separate himself from the more radical element. Certainly, were the roles reversed, we would likely not forgive anybody else for supporting a preacher with such vitriolic views; I see massive numbers of people having trouble forgiving Obama.

This whole thing has shaken me up. I thought, just weeks ago, that Obama would mop up the floor in November; now, I'm thinking McCain has a more than an even chance, no matter which candidate he faces.
