I remember listening to John Kennedy when he was running in the 1960 election...

...I was in the 6th grade. I lived in Ohio. My parents were totally WASP (disclaimer ~~ that is because my mother hid her Jewish background). They belonged to the all-white Country Club, the all white Presbyterian Church, we lived in an all white, upper middle class neighborhood. There was one black family that lived close by...but that was OK cuz the family was very light skinned and the dad was a medical doctor...so they did not count as really being black. Oh, and to my parents, if JFK won...the freaking CATHOLIC POPE would run the USA!

I listened to JFK...and I felt today the the same way I felt when I listened to Barack Obama. So, as a 12 year old, I got on the city bus ~~ the fare was 35-cents ~~ and road it downtown and went to the Kennedy headquarters and volunteered. My parents reacted like I was insane and they still voted for Nixon and thought the blacks in our city were there only to clean the houses of white people and cook and drive for them.

But...today, again felt like that 12-year-old, 6th grader...and my world became a better place. There is hope for the future...and while the USA is a great place, it can get better!

Yes, I see so much of the Kennedy magic and ability (Jack and Bobby) in Obama. He is part Irish, after all.

6. It was before my time........as I was just a little toddler being raised in France......

But after listening to many tapes, watching videos and reading the text, it appears that few have connected in the ways of FDR, JFK, RFK, and MLK. I think that BHO is giving us what we have been hungering for, leadership dealing with the issue of reconciliation.....something that each of the leaders I mentioned worked to do.
