7. You know, I keep expecting him to let me down
but he just goes from height to height. This was a home run today. Honest, sincere, to the point, poetic and, of course, topical.

How proud I'll be when he's our President!

David

11. That was my reaction
I thought he might trot out his stump speech or take the easy way out.

No way.

He nailed it and hit it out of the park.

When it came to only 2 Dem candidates I zeroed in on Obama and am impressed.

8. He gave a great speech , as usual. He confessed to hearing
a lot of controversial sermons from the Rev, he didn't agree with.
So if that is true,I still don't know why he continued to attend with his wife and kids. Makes no sense to me. I don't know what he really believes.

15. I go to a UCC and hear controversial things too
They aren't race related, but some are spicy nonetheless. I take my 5 kids because they need to hear these things instead of the milquetoast crap from the media. They need to see how people act and feel when they are hurting. I have no plans to leave my church.

23. Because someone you respect says things you don't agree with
does that mean you should eliminate them from your hearing or life? How do people grow if they don't listen to all sides. Obama's life's experiences no doubt led him to ponder the black/white issues he had to deal with. He was raised by the white side of his family and apparently knew little of his black side, yet looked black. Sounds like he grew up looking at both sides.

It was interesting he mentioned Michelle and her heritage and her genetics that came from slaves and "slave owners".?!

10. It lacked the inspirational phrase that can be replayed on the news. Needed that.
No "I have a dream" no "ask not what your country..."

no quotable and memorable phrases... and certainly no soundbite.

that is a problem, and because of that, you really gotta hear the speech to get it... unfortunately, he decided to give the speech at 10am on a tuesday, when most voters are at work and can't see it.

and isn't time we all get our shit together, and focus on the real problems out there, think about it, we have cheney and mc cain out in Iraq, sabar rattling for another war or wars and to keep our soldiers there forever, we are torturing people, they are spying on us before 9/11, they are pushing people out of their homes, this is becoming a class war, shit, let's keep focused and not listen to all this hatred and distraction from our media, enough is enough.

and eff those who call it a "cult" we are americans and that comes first and foremost.

18. What Obama supporters gave him a C and why?
I'm genuinely curious. I've felt like one of the more pragmatic Obama supporters thus far, but that speech really inspired some idealism.

24. This line is Hypocritical and devisive
"We can dismiss Reverend Wright as a crank or a demagogue, just as some have dismissed Geraldine Ferraro, in the aftermath of her recent statements, as harboring some deep-seated racial bias."

27. Unfortunately, you didn't have a slot in the poll for anyone who has yet to decide whom they're
supporting. I consider myself in that category and give it an A.

It was a brilliant speech, given brilliantly.

31. I give him an A. Could have been an A-Plus but
that Ferraro line made me wince a little. He had every reason to included it but ultimately I don't think it helped. On the other hand, it was such a throwaway line that I'm not sure I would have noticed it without the transcript in front of me.

All in all,

Damn,

that was good.

Wow, such an inspiring and wonderful speech from someone who has such a great vision for our country and all its citizens. I wasn't sure what to expect with his speech today-I knew he would give a good speech but it was a lot more than I imagined it would be. Awesome.

34. I gave it a C+, it was too Afro-centric. His story about his GrandMother
being afraid of black men laid all the distrust in he & his pastor's world at the feet of white people. And so only served to maintain *the white man is flawed* as the only premise worthy of repair. When Asians sometimes feel the same way, as do blacks and other races as well. No, the fear is not 'of a black hat'; the fear is of the unknown and not just by some but by quite a few. And not just about race, but by a host of issues.

The black/white problem, as BO, his pastor, and many even here would characterizse it, is reduced too easily to just that: black...and white. But I don't see anyone shaking hands. I see many casting blame. I see one group withering beneath another's tongue for hours on end; sometimes long after any lesson has been learned.

I was a single parent, I danced at Alvin Ailey, I am white, and my son has a black GodFather, I gave it a C+
