Fox News continues to play Obama/pastor story over and over and over...
Brit Hume on Obama and his pastor's comments: "Did he really not know?" Greta refers to this as "Obama's pastor problem."

Sounds like some here on DU have a lot in common with Fox news. Congratulations.

32. You might not think so, but Barack's spiritual advisor IS important.
Calling us idiots doesn't help your cause. It is just plain arrogant to believe that this issue is unimportant. This is the guy who ADVISES Barry on the spiritual issues which he has said on numerous occasions mean a lot to him. Are we to now believe that he was just kidding - his religion isn't really that big a deal to him after all?

56. my wife told me the same thing
it's been what they're talking about at work. Everyone of voting age in my household voted for Obama..that doesn't change the fact that this is a problem. I'm creeped out by his pastor. That doesnt mean i won't vote for him in November...but it does bode a problem for the GE. We don't win without independants and conservative dems voting for our candidate. Sorry, I don't see that happening...people are genuinely repulsed by the over the top preacher man.....and it woulnd't matter if the guy was white and whacky either. It's the zealotry and the overemotional screaming that makes people feel uncomfortable. What do you think did Dean in?

73. I wish you well in your support of Ms Clinton, but the only way she can win.....
Is by subterfuge. She is definitely a fighter. Should she succeed, I will look upon her as I do others with her directness and ideology of Corporate strength, Hawkish military and Washington insider old style attitude, as the enemy of the people.

Not because of who she is, or that she is a woman, but simply on the merits of her spoken policy stances that mirror the current and past Bush administrations.

Ms Clinton's stances are her own to own, and in addition to the ones I mentioned above that are clearly right of Democrat every one of her left leaning stances come with the caveat of dictation, yes we are going to give you some social programs but I know better than you do what they are and what should be given to you, a let them eat cake attitude, that has shown its failures to the people many times.

Make no mistake about my hardness of position, it does not come from my opposition to Ms Clinton, but more directly from the my conviction of the importance of "We the people", which is not supported by or operated under Mr Clinton's stances.

The question of what will I do? Should she become the nominee, I will pass on the Party Nominees or perhaps all presidential candidates and the remainder of my direction is outlined clearly in my signature below.

...the longer this goes on, the higher the chance that there will be a backlash. Really... have you ever seen such unrestrained hysteria? About something a minister says? Attack and attack and attack him and keep on attacking him on his faith. Attack his church relentlessly and keep calling it "hate speech." Keep it up. At some point, even evangelicals might start thinking, wait just a minute...

If they overplay this, it will backfire.

24. And Hillary and Bill will get a free ride?
These people made a movie about Hillary. They made a friggin MOVIE and that is only the TEASER. They are salivating at the mouth. Why hasn't FAUX NEWS been discussing all of Hillary's scandals most everyone is aware of? You can see the glee in Buchannon's eyes when he talks about Hillary as he tries to deflect and defend her on every issue. They want Obama to loose and they want to have clean hands (make the Democrats take him out). That is why Faux has been hammering this non-story about Wright. It is so obvious. But, wait, when it seems like this story MIGHT actually be hurting him in the NOMINATION (say if superdelegates start going to Hillary), expect a Hillary scandal to break. They WANT this to go to the convention. They want a '68! While Democrats tear each other apart, McCain will have had several MONTHS to raise money, not spend any money, rally his base, get informed on some of the issues, create a platform that will appear reasonable, and hit BOTH the candidates while they tear each other apart...providing media clips for him to use against either of them. It is so obvious, yet I don't understand why the Democratic party leadership hasn't stepped in and done something about this.

The Repugs are playing us all.

They are on THIS site causing mass confusion ... stoking the fires, fanning the flames, etc. They are writing op-eds in "respected" newspapers, again, causing mass confusion, and at times, fabricating things. They have injected race and gender into this debate, asked for reaction, then blamed the subject or object for creating the situation. Then they continuously remind us of these divisions, in race, in our party, in America, and then pontificate on what in God's earth can the Democrats do about it. Then as we're distracted talking about it, the issues are left untouched, because the REPUGS LOSE on the issues. They never want to talk about the Iraq war, unless it has something to do about who voted for and who was against the war at the beginning. But what about the war NOW? They push that aside to talk about Spitzer, Rev. Wright, Ferraro, etc. Democrats LOSE as long as this is the focus of the media's attention...regardless of who the eventual nominee is. Democrats should be outraged that networks have focused SO MUCH time on the petty squabbles of the Democratic primary. It isn't news. It is gossip. We need to know about the war, the economy, what's going on in Washington. We need to know what crimes Bush&Co has gotten away with this past week. We need to know why two of Bush's advisers have ignored subpoena's from Congress. That should be all over the news. If it were, public pressure would be on this Administration to conform with the law. Someone would have to do something about it. Yet, instead, the media gets to distract the American people with utter nonsense, while everything around them crumbles. The media is being used as a tool for the RW. McCain is not even being covered.

Karl Rove is at work here. He is probably laughing right now.

It is important to get a Democrat in the WH. They have MUCH in store for us. Democrats need to stick together. The Repugs are singlehandedly trying to destroy America. I don't know why, though. It is quite unusual for a party that suggests it is more patriotic than the founding fathers themselves.

While the Democrats bash each other's skulls in, McCain is in IRAQ trying to look like the 44th President of the United States ... and he is with DICK CHENEY! Democrats should be ANGRY about this, yet, we're arguing over Reverend Wright and his statements.

John McCain basically bitch slapped the NYT and what has come out of this lobbyist story? Wasn't THAT a strange occurrence? Did ANYONE find that troubling? Bill Kristol gets to critique Obama's credibility in the paper (and also used Newsmax as a source), yet he is an adviser to John McCain. Does anyone find that TROUBLING?

There is SHADY BUSINESS happening right now. SHADY BUSINESS. Just look at Rush's Hillary endorsement in Texas. SHADY BUSINESS. If the Democrats don't grow a spine and GET SMART QUICK, we will hand this thing to the Repugs. Dean has been trying to HIT MCCAIN, but he cannot do it alone. Everyone is wrapped up in their own candidate instead of the PARTY. We have our own state parties SUING the national party. Republican Florida governor (WHO MAY BE JOHN MCCAIN'S VICE PRESIDENT) has his HAND in our nomination process! Does ANYONE see something WRONG here?

37. Obama's pretty tough
he's still standing after:

1) not being black enough
2) after that, being the "black candidate"
3) being called a Muslim

name a candidate that has had those things thrown at him and still is tied with the Republican, and/or with his Democratic primary opponent. There hasn't been one.

the idea that Obama has had it easy is laughable, he's had it harder than almost any candidate, but he's also held on in the face of it.

he is still the best we've got.

Because the only way they can go, by continuing along these lines, is down. They are coming from a position that they must either retract or forward to its logical conclusion: Fox is rife with bigots.

I can see Fox four or five months down the road, still beating this poor, dead horse. Fox will be given nicknames and fresh references by the bloggers and the pundits - "The White Channel", "Fair and Balanced White, Loud and Proud". Fox's strategy will grow old, very old and incredibly hard to sustain without alienating millions of Americans.

the ONLY issue for any of the candidates that will come up from here on out. There are going to be so many more. Some one-day media events, some longer. For all three.

I wonder what scandal people are going to be talking about a month from now, three months from now, and further down. No doubt, this Wright story is being drug out by Faux, etc, but to think this is all ending here with this one story, is shortsighted.

We tend to have short attention spans, and the media looks for fresher stories.

51. I thought this was a non-issue. Was this not the argument? This is not a big deal?
It's Fox. What is this a big fucking surprise? Do you not own television?

Of course blame your fellow Democrats. That's it. It's a conspiracy.

53. The reason is that it is a damaging issue and Fox News being what it is won't let that go.

60. Nobody said electing a black Democratic President would be easy
Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 07:57 AM by alcibiades_mystery
The Clintonite fanatics are happy enough to reinforce this lesson on the half-hour, with the most despicable right-wing smears as their ammunition. One particularly noxious imbecile even continued to defend the Newsmax story as 'at least plausible" after the so-called journalist (an open freeper) admitted that he might have gotten the day wrong, and had destroyedf his notes. That's how despicable these fucking idiots are. But nobody said it would be easy. Fanatics can use all manner of supposedly "righteous" reasons to paper over their fairly obvious racism. Nobody said it would be easy. The forces of reaction often display a comfortable liberalism until they are threatened with real social change, at which point they immediately revert back to what they really are. The events on these boards in the last few days are proof enough of that.

64. Did anyone see the "truth-o-meter" on both Fox *and* CNN?
They both have a "truth-o-meter" section and they both ran exactly the same stories on it - two about Hillary and one about Obama - but none about McCain.

their misinformed and misguided opinions confirmed by someone they claim to be legitimate.
