I've been such a fool. Now I am so over Clinton.
Edited on Mon Mar-17-08 11:14 PM by AGirl
It feels like I've woken up from a bad dream. I was so manipulated by the mass media and the Clinton media campaign that I thought this campaign is about having the first female president who is good on gay rights and pro choice issues.

True, Clinton is good on GLBT people issues and pro choice issues, but I don’t see how Obama is any worse on those issues, even if he is not as well versed on it.

This race is so not about gender or race. This race is absolutely about the Iraq War. Every election should be about the Iraq War as long as anyone who has voted for the Iraq War and is unapologetic about it remains in public office.

The Iraq War is about greed, domination, and exploitation. It violates what it means to be a human being, what it means to be the “citizen of the world”, what it means to not torture and not kill for money or selfish reason.

Clinton said Obama does not have a concrete plan on Iraq, she does. I don’t know what her plan on Iraq is, except she said she will “end the war within the first term of her presidency.” Well that is not exactly concrete. Hillary Clinton might care about some American people, but she mainly cares about power and what she can do to be part of the powerful people that has a say in American policies, and her vote and continual stance on Iraq is the greatest testament anyone ever needs to know about her “experience.”

Her experience and both past and present actions show me that she has learned nothing from Iraq. She didn’t see anything wrong with it. Well I do.

One of the few things about being a progressive is about standing up against UNJUSTICE WARS FOR PROFIT and being a person that does not believe MIGHT MAKES RIGHT.

A good politician knows that s/he can’t do whatever s/he wants to attain power or profit at the expense of another person or at the destruction of another person. America needs a leader that is a GOOD person. Hillary Clinton is NOT a good politician.

So of course, I am going to vote AGAINST Hillary Clinton. We need to stop Clinton as much as we need to stop McCain.

The whole talk about race and gender is all irrelevant when we deal with the real issue.

PS: The whole thing about switching my support, well, here's the thing: I still don't like Obama much, but I think voting for him is a good alternative to stop Clinton. That DOES not mean I can't defend Clinton when there are unfair attacks and I will continue to defend her from sexist attacks! I don't like when Obama supporters attack Clinton and it feels like they are being unfairly picked on because they are the minority on here and I will defend them, but that does not mean I support Clinton. It's an emotional thing for me, it's not black and white. If you don't believe me, oh well.

Why can't I say how I feel? How am I changing my mind? I don't give a crap if you think I am doing this for fun. I know who I am and what I stood for and I can talk about it all I want and as much as I want to!

Edited on Mon Mar-17-08 11:17 PM by ThatBozGuy
One of their own.......

It is clear that leadership from the top down of Ms Clinton's campaign to her supporters, the edict is clear and brutal, FOR HER OR DIE, even if you are a democrat none the less.

Destroy those whom you once embraced when they disagree and ignore those whom have no use to your purpose.
Big states vs little states, supporter versus dissenter.

Much of the same will manifest itself in a presidency helmed by Ms Clinton and driven by this mentality and culture.

To AGirl I thank you for you opinion and wish you well in your search and choice of YOUR candidate no matter who that may come to be even if you should return to Ms Clinton's fold, as long as you maintain support for the democrat of your choice I will support that decision and your right to have it, lest you choose to wander to the right of many here and choose to support a republican candidate then the support will wither and the challenge will be set.

Thank you again for your opinion.

51. I totally understand that process...
...When I was in the process of picking a candidate, my mind went through all kinds of
back-and-forth.

I would post about it, and I'm sure sometimes I contradicted myself. It's difficult, making
these choices, and we are all exhausted and emotionally drained. It has been a long haul.

So I do understand what you are saying. I also understand posting the same types of messages
at times. You start to feel something, then you process it, then you post about it. Then, you
feel another shift--and the puzzle pieces come together even more. Then, you need to write about
it more.

I do understand.

I suggest that everyone give agirl a break. We're all Democrats and we're all here to support
each other's processes as we endure this drawn-out nightmare of a primary.

I can understand disagreeing on ideas or policies--even candidates. However, it's a bit
crass to berate someone who is working through the emotions of this primary.

...I think people who are judging you and haranguing you for posting your thoughts---are the
ones with the problems.

We all ruminate.

This is a messsageboard...a political messageboard and most of the people here are pretty supportive.

If you're going through some kind of internal shift, it is natural to want to talk about it, and also
get some feedback and support.

I don't think anyone needs to be ridiculed for their process.

I think you should keep posting and ignore the naysayers.

Edited on Mon Mar-17-08 11:40 PM by TwoSparkles
...and that's ok. I'm an Obama supporter and I do understand how tough this process
is. There is so much at stake ad we are in such dire straights in this country. This
primary is dragging us all down.

I think you're right...most people on the boards support a candidate and they're pretty
entrenched in their beliefs. Me included.

However, you deserve to be respected as you go through this process--and not berated for
posting the same thoughts more than once. That's ridiculous that someone would call
you on that!

I know what you mean about being addicted though! This place is very addicting. I know
when I'm stressed, I avoid the incendiary post and I only read stuff that I think will
help me with where I am.

Some of the DU groups are pretty cool too, and not as rough as GDP.

Good luck with everything. I know it's very challenging, but when you're moving from being
"decided" and into a period of uncertainty, that interim can be hard.

Maybe reading more in-depth articles about the primaries and the candidates might be helpful--and
get you to a place where you feel that you can support a candidate and feel good about it.

We all deserve that. :)

Where are you? If you're in a state that votes soon, that would compound all of this, that's for sure.

42. This is what the poster meant...
Occupation: The Inconvenient Truth About Iraq

It is time to tell an inconvenient truth about Iraq: it is an occupation, not a war. In wars, armies fight to dominate land. The US won the war three years ago when Bush said, “Mission Accomplished”. Then the occupation started, and our troops were not trained or equipped for an occupation under predictably hostile circumstances. Finally getting the courage to tell the truth that the US is an occupying force drastically changes the picture in Iraq. You cannot “win” an occupation. “Cut and run” does not apply to an occupation. Occupiers have to leave; the only question is when and how. Progressive Democrats agree that it should be soon; they only disagree on details. Political courage is called for. Truth now!...

57. Come on, she is messing around with Senator Obama's supporters ...
How come you all are falling for her crap. Just yesterday, she was on here as an adamant Senator Clinton supporter. This is beyond stupid! Maybe she gets a kick out of baiting people on here, but honestly, this is downright absurd. All her fellow Senator Clinton supporters know that she is joking around, which makes it even more pathetic!

I still like to err on the side of caution and give benefit of the doubt, than tell a poster off.

I know that it has been hard for supporters on this board to change candidates. AGirl could be yanking all our chains, or she really could be having a tough time supporting Clinton.

edited to add: It's really the lime kitty that everyone likes. :)

It's not about who i support, its about me defending the underdog, which is something I will always do but my real vote and support are seperate from those consideration.

:hi:

Be sure to go to a rally this Wednesday Night to protest the Fifth Anniversary of the Iraq War:

On Wednesday, thousands of us will gather at candlelight vigils to mark the 5th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. In addition to honoring the fallen, we'll send a clear message in this sinking economy: it's time to end the war, and start using the billions wasted every week on the Iraq occupation to help folks here at home.
Republicans are trying to tell a story that opposition to the war is declining. The media will be looking to this anniversary as an indicator, and we need to turn out in force.

There's a vigil in Dallas—can you make it on Wednesday?

Host: Hadi J—fellow MoveOn member
Where: Dealey Plaza, Downtown Dallas (in Dallas)
When: Wednesday, Mar. 19, 2008, at 7:00 PM

Or other locations:
New Priorities Vigil
Andy Brown Jr. Community Park East, Coppell at 7:00 PM—RSVP

New Priorities Vigil
Lincoln Square, Collins at I-30, Arlington at 5:00 PM—RSVP

New Priorities Vigil
residence near legacy, Plano at 7:00 PM—RSVP

People change their minds about the candidates and who they support all of the
time.

I'm really unclear about why people are being so rough on this person.

I think it's really rude and bizarre.

She's not an Obama supporter, so I have no stake in this.

I think everyone should be treated with respect, as they make up their mind
and try to process this emotionally exhausting primary season.

It's been rough on all of us.

I went from Gore---->Edwards----Obama-----Edwards----Obama. I wrote, as I was processing.
No one ever ridiculed me for (gasp!) changing my mind!

107. Speak your piece, Agirl. Don't hold your peace.
I think most of us here are at least two degrees of separation from our first choice.

I came to a similar conclusion as you a long time ago. Ever since Iraq started, that has been the issue above all issues for me and Hillary let me down when we needed "the fighter" in her the most. Where was this fight-to-the-death for the past seven years? If she'd stood up and fought this hard against the Bush administration all these years, no one could have touched her in this race. No one. She is where she is because of her performance on the Iraq issue. She failed and doesn't deserve to be rewarded for her failure. She could have used the last seven years to SHOW what kind of leader she is. As far as I'm concerned, she did exactly that which is why she's my very very last Democratic choice for president.

You are smart to remain skeptical of Obama. We all would be so wise to keep an eye on every one, even Kucinich and Gore. That's just our job as citizens. It's no insult to the person. Even those of us inspired by Obama would be wise to expect much much less than we actually hope for.

died for no reason, would you still back the senators who voted for the invasion of Iraq? Agirl is playing with you all. She must be some little girl, who got hold of her parents computer and here to create havoc. No right thinking person could even agree that it was ok to invade Iraq.

120. I'm not sure I explained my point clearly. I don't back the senators who voted for invasion.
We agree -- no right thinking person could have EVER agreed that invading Iraq was the right thing to do. I DO imagine "what if" it were my country and my family and friends. "What if" it was someone I cherished being sent to die for lies. It WAS someone I loved when they did it in Vietnam. My father was drafted because his father was a farmer unlike fortunate son Bush. It was my family who suffered the aftermath of that war and when I was old enough to start looking for answers, all I found were lies. And here I saw what I went through about to happen to this generation's children all over again.

As for Agirl, I take her post on its face and if she is "playing" with me, that will be revealed by her own words in time. Until then, I'm content to let her speak for herself as I would do the same for you. I'm not quite sure what you were trying to say to me, but that's probably because I wasn't clear in the first place. To reiterate, my primary issue in deciding is Iraq. Of all the Democrats, Hillary performs the very worst. That's the biggest reason I'm supporting Obama.

125. We will always have to confront sexism on DU

126. Its ok. I used to reflexively defend Hillary too.
Then one day I took a look at what she was doing and I started doubting. And then I looked more and I really began to dislike what I saw.

And the the Iraq War Resolution happened...and it was all over.

Never again.

I'm lucky because I like Obama. But I'd be just as happy to vote against Hillary too.

129. The war is the most violent expression of oppressive patriarchy in society.
Anyone who supports it is not a feminist.
