Elton John to raise money for Clinton
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/mar/17/uselections2008.hillaryclinton1

...
Within minutes of the announcement, there were protests from bloggers on various US political sites about the involvement of a non-American in the election campaign.

...
The fundraiser was born out of the close ties between Elton John and Bill Clinton established through their joint work in fighting HIV/AIDS.

While there is no polling evidence that celebrity endorsements influence voters, both Clinton and Barack Obama regularly release the names of the latest actor, sports personality or other well-known figure who have offered support.

The biggest draw so far has been Jack Nicholson, who reprised his role as a marine commander in A Few Good Men for an ad supporting Clinton...

54. That's pretty disgusting... Diana doesn't deserve that sort of stupidity spoken of her
She did a lot of wonderful things for the less fortunate people of the world and in no way deserves to be the butt of your insensitive and unintelligent joke.

This is how far Obamaniacs will go... fucking disgusting.

I voted for Edwards and have no dog left in this race. But I'm pretty disgusted at the hate I'm seeing, and for that hate to say anything at all about Lady Diana... well, that's a new low.'

92. Yeah- No Difference Between Elton John And Milli Vanilli
In his four decade career, John has been one of the dominant forces in rock and popular music, especially during the 1970s. He has sold more than 250 million albums and over one hundred million singles,<3> making him one of the most successful artists of all time. He has more than 50 Top 40 hits including seven consecutive #1 U.S. albums, 59 Top 40 singles, 16 Top 10, 4 #2 hits, and nine #1 hits.<4> He has won five Grammy awards and one Academy Award. His success has had a profound impact on popular music and has contributed to the continued popularity of the piano in rock and roll. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked him #49 on their list of the 100 greatest artists of all time.<5>

A candidate with fund-raising.

I think one thing people should consider is that the world has as big a stake in this election as we do. And many other countries actually get the news. We don't.

41. I am not making a
non-American argument. I am married to a non-American, a Brit, in fact, who is also a libertarian (in philosophical outlook) agnostic, whereas I am a Catholic independent. I was just wondering whether EJ lived in the U.S. as I don't know why he would be involved in the US primaries, unless, of course, he is personal friends with the Clintons in which case it is not really being "involved" in the primaries.

59. The world has a lot at stake in this election...
And their view is far less tainted by scandalous media such as ours. Perhaps he has a far better view of this election than we do.

Regardless, he has the right to endorse whomever. He has the right to campaign for whomever. He has the right to engage in fund-raising efforts for whomever. His ability to vote for whomever is really not the issue here, and isn't connected to any of the aforementioned activities.

27. You might want to mention that those charges were dropped last year.
The Photograph of two naked girls owned by singer Sir Elton John is not an indecent image, the Crown Prosecution Service declared yesterday.

The picture in question, taken by American Nan Goldin, was seized last month at an arts center in the UK - much to the dismay of Sir Elton.

According to The Sun newspaper, yesterday the Crown Prosecution Service stated: “The evidence is insufficient to justify proceedings.”

The Crown Prosecution Service also reached the same conclusion when they examined the picture in 2001.

The photograph has been exhibited all over the world and offered for sale at Sotheby’s, New York, in 2002 and 2004.
