Who cares more about Obama's association
with Rev. Wright? People who consider themselves religious or people who don't consider themselves religious? Or is it more someone in between? I suspect it is the people somewhere in between. I consider myself to be fairly religious and have an academic background in religion. I am married to someone who is not religious. I was married by a priest that I knew from my acadmeic studies. I talked to this priest on several occasions and even attended some events with him and some other students. I have sought out the advice of several priests and other religious people, including pastor/friends from denominations (I am Catholic) I don't belong to. In the big scheme of things, I see this as only one component of who I am. I see people writing on here that Wright was Obama's pastor for 20 years and Wright was Obama's spiritual guide and mentor. What does this mean to people here? Does this mean that you think Wright dictates everything Obama thinks? Or that somehow Wright has some inordinate amount of influence? My sister who is a devout Catholic took her daughter to the dr. when she was around 16 to get her birth control (and this didn't even register a blip on her Catholic identity). All this means is that people's relationships with their religious communities are far more complex than most of the people who are harping on this Wright thing will admit. I suspect that people who consider themselves religious are probably less likely to overinterpret Obama's Rev. Wright association. I would do a poll but I haven't contributed so I can't.
