The Optimist Inside Me and Why Obama Will Overcome this Swiftboat Attack
I would normally say, 'why Obama will become President.' But looking at how long this thing may play out (and the forces involved that want it to play out)...I think it's too early.

As others have already pointed out in their own threads, I think Obama can benefit from this swiftboat being launched so early. You would think the geniuses over at FAUX would wait until the PA primary is closer...or hold it until the General Election. But they've been salivating at the mouth for so long to find something to stick on Obama...when they got their greasy, chubby fingers on the Wright tapes they didn't know what to do with themselves. If there's anything Obama has shown this election season, it's that he is a very intellectual and smart person. I think his team has also learned from Kerry and are preparing for the worse (and I don't know how it could get any worse than this).

The Republicans are scared shitless of Obama and always have been. They're terrified of his crossover appeal, they're terrified of his unifying message, and they're terrified by the stupid amounts of money he can bring in with 1,000,000 online donors to draw from. This is a corporate-controlled society we live in, and the Rethugs are the perfect litmus test for how fearful some of those corporate entities can be. Not to say the Democrats aren't, but our culture and belief system is vastly different than theirs...so we hide it.

Obama has mustered a very strong lead in the delegate count, the popular vote, and he's increasing his Superdelegate lead every week. He's still the odds on favorite for the nomination in my book and outside of the biggest political scandal in recent memory (through a stolen nomination)...I think he can weather the blows. For more insight into that scandal, look for my thread that I'll be posting after this...'The Pessimist Inside Me and Why Obama Will Have the Carpet Pulled from Under Him.'

I'm skeptical about how strongly the ENTIRE media will cover this Wright story though. FAUX News has been talking about this alone by themselves for a long time now and the rest of the MSM ignored them. But seeing as how this story became a major issue through means of a very racially-charged week (starting with Ferroro), how likely is it that the MSM will continue on this path? I mean they'd have to be aware of the enormous amount of racial friction they're causing even right now? And the media has generally tried to avoid racially-charged issues...at least as long as I've been watching them. That's one positive thing I can say about them. And Obama also has supporters in the media, and if this gets any more one-sided than it already is...I can imagine those supporters expressing their frustration on T.V.

By no means am I saying Obama has this nomination wrapped up...no one ever said the first Black President would be sworn in easily. So I want to reinterate what I said yesterday to Obama supporters...stay strong. Don't be swayed by the swiftboat attempts of Clinton (who is holding a press conference to exploit this) and her supporters or the right-wing. I think Obama has built such a following that will at least carry him to Denver. The question is what happens afterward. We have to look at the bigger picture here my friends.

4. It's not a "swiftboat attack," it's vetting
It used to be part of the process of becoming president. Why, with Obama, is due diligence either "swiftboating" or "playing the race card"?

5. It's swiftboating because it takes a truth: That Wright made those comments and IMPLIES
that Obama is an american hating black separatist.

6. I agree...
Vetting is something along the lines of maybe NAFTA-gate or maybe even Rezko-gate. Not "Obama is a Black racist seperatist."

7. Well, NAFTA-gate was actually Hillary's problem. As for the current situation, it's a non-issue

8. The swiftboaters have defined swiftboating, and it's about combat
Vets for the Truth posts at its website a definition of "swiftboating" as "exposing the lies, deceit and fraud of self-glorifying public officials or candidates for office who exaggerate their military service by lying about their feats of heroism and combat wounds."
