Happy New Year to DU, and may the best Democrat win!
Of all the things that we hope for in 2004, the resounding defeat of Bush* is at the top of every list.

I'm optimistic that this will happen, but one thing that's GUARANTEED, is that one Democratic candidate will win the nomination.

The year 2003 began with hopeful signs of vast anti-war demonstrations and falling Bushie poll numbers. We felt the blatant mendacity and incompetence of the Bush* regime, couldn't help but be noticed by the news media and the American public. We were encouraged by the the rumblings of a Presidential primary starting, and by Al Gore's speech. We thought we wouldn't necessarily be in the wilderness forever.

We've had a lot of discussion about the need to change the direction of the country and a lot of fun comparing our favorite candidate(s) to Chimpy. Back, long before the race got tight, everybody was pretty happy and we were all pleased with most or all of our candidates.

When it began to appear that somebody might actually WIN the primaries, we saw the DU board heat up.

I realize everybody has their favorite(s), but there is no avoiding the possibility that your guy/gal might not win. Ther are nine, and only one will get the nomination.

There's been a lot of discussion of "Only Clark/Kerry/Dean/etc. can beat Bush and nobody else can". I don't believe this is true. I believe if ONE of our leading candidates can beat Bush, then they ALL can.

If the gods are kind to Chimpy and Iraq quiets down, and if job growth actually starts, then he might win. In such circumstances, any Democrat would suffer the same disadvantages.

The media meme that the steely-eyed rocket man Bush* is keeping us safer is just laughable. Somebody needs to point out the Bozo the Clown would have a better national security policy than Dubya. Republicans keep us safer because, what? They invade the wrong country? Because they waste money on unworkable missile defense and shortchange emergency responders? Because they wear flight suits?

So anyway, go ahead and vote for the candidate you believe is the strongest. The primaries will sort it out. If Kerry is really a stronger candidate than Dean, let him start showing it. By winning a primary. Same for Clark, same for Edwards, same for Gep, etc.

Here's to a Democratic victory in November!

2. Everybody's free to believe what they will
I believe that Dean, and only Dean is capable of defeating Bush.

I also do not do loyalty oaths, which I believe ABB is.
