2. Because no one ever misrepresents themselves on the internet.
It's funny how this story has been out for 48 hours now and Obama's numbers have continued to climb in the polls.

So much for them jumping ship, eh?

39. Heres one
Edited on Fri Mar-14-08 08:23 PM by MojoMojoMojo
"To all of those who don't think this association with a racist, hate monger pastor isn't a big deal, consider this: If John McCain or Hillary Clinton were associated with a person like Obama's pastor, they would have been torn apart by the media. I think it's sad that there are so many people who keep saying how much they hate the US; Ok, so why don't you just leave if it's that horrible! It truly makes me angry and disappointed that so few people have any pride left. I mean, people still wear hats and talk on the phone during the national anthem, how unpatriotic is that? Regarding my support for Obama, I agree with a number of his positions, but I, as a patriotic American with the right values instilled in me through my family, can no longer want to vote for someone who can be associated with such a horrible man. This association strikes against one of Obama's core principles for why he's running for President: he claims that he may not have the experience, but that he has the judgment to make the right decisions.... I question this judgment now based on the fact that he can have a 20-year relationship with someone who hates the US, but yet still lives in the country. The reasoning is beyond me.

That knowing that Obama has a "20-year relationship" with his pastor but somehow not knowing his pastor is a firebrand is a dead giveaway that someone is a hack spouting talking points? I must have seen that phrase a dozen times tonight.

BTW, Mojo, thanks for posting that excerpt so I could call out the trolls without calling out any DU members directly. :)

Are you kidding -- sorry, but this story has as positive a spin on it as it has a negative one. Has anyone realized that broadcasting the sermons of a Christian minister will help dispel the Muslim BS, along with giving Obama a platform from
which to discuss his views of faith.

I'd be almost tempted to think they leaked the "video" just for that opportunity.

61. Heres another
"This certainly forces me to re-think my feelings about Obama. In one of the debates he was asked which vote in the senate he would most like to take back. He answered by saying that his biggest regret was that he didn't take a stand against the Senate interfering in the Terri Schiavo case. He went on to say that as a professor of constitutional law he knew better and that it was an inexcusable omission on his part. Well the Schiavo case was a one-time thing. The thing with this radical minister is that Obama has been following him for more than 20 years. As well, he has been a part of Obama's campaign. If Obama feels like he should have taken a stand in the Schiavo case, then surely he had an obligation to speak up in opposition to the minister's racial rants."

65. This one was probably undecided ,but those are jumping also
"I can't vote for this man. Sorry, most of us would walk away from a church if we did not agree with what was being preached - he's been there 22 years and this hate monger is on his payroll. Shame on these people who are not helping this country."

66. Another Leaning towards now jumping away
"For me, part of Obama's appeal was that he seemed like the only prominent black man seeking the presidency who isn't overflowing with biggoted, self-righteous, anti-white diatribe. Sounds like he might just as well be a part of Al Sharpton's congregation."

68. Another from a black man
"I voted for obama and i am a black man, shocked at this, and i hope that he gets more scrutiny, cause i dont' want a black man that really is for Farrakhan values, this is wrong and an injustice. i did see the debate on msnbc where tim russert hit him with questions on this issue and like a blogger said above that he danced around the answer then said he doesn't agree with his pastor. I go to church, i don't agree with everything, but if i was listening to a pastor that has fundamental beliefs such as this one, and i called him my Spiritual advisor, i would be agreeing with the fundamentals of what this man says, of course everyone doesn't agree, but obama- whom i voted for, has a 20 year membership, called his pastor an "old uncle." well, if you were white like hillary, and had someone like this as your "spiritual advisor" then you would have no campaign left, and they would ask, " why do you still go there?" why does he , i don't know, but i need that answered, i want a black man in office, yes, but overall, i don't want a trojan horse, someone who doens't really like the usa, and yes i want a black man bad in office, but not that bad, this isn't unifying, he can't dance around this, he should renounce his membership and the rev. wright period, this man's spiritual leader is closely associated to farrakhan, i want toknow what else is in his surroundings, this is wrong, i hope that cnn, and others don't let this go, cause this is a big "red flag", i am sorry i voted for obama, he really inspires me, but i don't want someone that cannot renounce a man he is under in church, and still goes there, why still go there.?"

"if not your churchs pastor who do you go to for guidance... obama has fiercely defended his religious beliefs and now will he choose to deny them? is it now obvious to the media that racism is a two way street? to me i am sorry to have cast my vote already without this very alarming information.... ty for putting it out there now hopefully the rest of the country can or the super delegates can rescue us from a mislead journey.....i would not care if obama would denounce or de whatever .... it is his church his religion his background.... deny it is to deny who he is.... and what he believes and has faith in"

78. And Another
"Too late. I will not be voting for Obama anymore. A 20 yr. affiliation with a preacher who spews this kind of hate and intolerance is not who I want as my commander in chief. Obama had 20 yrs to walk out of that church if he sincerely disagreed with what Mr.Wright was saying and he didn't. He chose him as his MENTOR, had him perform his marriage and baptisms of his children. It is convenient that now that Mr.Wright is exposed as a racist, hatemonger, Obama conveniently distances himself and disagrees with some of his statements. Why didn't he just WALK OUT and away from that pastor and that church years ago? Interesting that now that he is running for president that he is speaking out against Mr.Wright's comments. You lost my vote OBAMA, it is time for CHANGE and it will not be YOU."

64. no - even polling data is better than random blog posts
Obama slight increase, relatively steady lately, on top of steady increase since January. Clinton hasn't gained in % supporters since last fall. Already had as much name recognition and support as she was going to have (or in any case, not adding new supporters any faster than Obama)

79. Obama is handling this dust-up brilliantly.
I know it must be difficult for some of you all to watch, seeing as how you are wishing for him to crash and burn.

Hillary should have gone on KO and explained herself. It would have prevented him from airing his special comment.

It's amazing to see how unflappable the guy is. They're trying to make him hurl his pastor under the bus, and he just politely says "no way."

This is out of 89 total comments .

11 jumping out of 23 is huge.
