So in March, Wright said
Edited on Fri Mar-14-08 05:15 PM by busymom
“If Barack gets past the primary, he might have to publicly distance himself from me,” “I said it to Barack personally, and he said yeah, that might have to happen.”

(just heard the quote on CNN).

This means that Obama was aware of how divisive Wright is...knew it might be an issue....and didn't even bother to distance himself before running.

2. So I guess we can't take him at his word...
And while Rev. Wright’s statements have pained and angered me, I believe that Americans will judge me not on the basis of what someone else said, but on the basis of who I am and what I believe in; on my values, judgment and experience to be President of the United States.

http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/03/14/raw-data-obamas-statement-condemning-his-pastors-controversial-sermons/

Now that we've established that he's "just another politician"...

let's please start looking at the candidates on their merits and experience.

12. I think both candidates should just fire their entire staffs
and strongly condemn, reject and denounce everyone they know, just in case someone happens to say something controversial later on.

It's more than a little disingenuous, not to mention pretty stupid, to call a politician out for not being more pro-active as regards what people may or may not say in the future.

Since Obama responded and responded well, it's interesting to see how some people won't just let it go, while they were asking - no, demanding - that treatment for Clinton after Ferraro 'resigned.'

Can't please anybody, I guess.

5. Lovely. One More Sound Bite To Use Against Him.
Now, come the GE, when he does separate himself from it, that quote is all it takes to make him look disingenuous.

Right now I can't help but thinking this whole thing is a fatal blow to his campaign. But that might be because it's so fresh in my head and I'm obsessing about it too much. I dunno. Maybe after a day or two, with a fresher perspective, I'll see things differently. But for now, I'm almost starting to think this could destroy him in the GE.

this may be a concern, but it's definitely not a death nail. He's addressing the issue, and people will either accept him or not now. It was a smart move to do all of these shows. Get over it.

17. I thought so too yesterday.
Well, not that he'd have to drop out. That would be just dumb.

But I thought if he didn't address the matter strongly and directly it would hurt him pretty bad.

The statement is one part of it, and it's a real good start. After he shoves Hannity's smugness back down his throat and appears with KO and Andy Kewper, this should be pretty much done as an issue.

Try not to be too disappointed. ;)

Disinvitation by Obama Is Criticized
By JODI KANTOR
Published: March 6, 2007

CHICAGO, March 5 — The Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., senior pastor of the popular Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago and spiritual mentor to Senator Barack Obama, thought he knew what he would be doing on Feb. 10, the day of Senator Obama’s presidential announcement.

After all, back in January, Mr. Obama had asked Mr. Wright if he would begin the event by delivering a public invocation.

But Mr. Wright said Mr. Obama called him the night before the Feb. 10 announcement and rescinded the invitation to give the invocation.

“Fifteen minutes before Shabbos I get a call from Barack,” Mr. Wright said in an interview on Monday, recalling that he was at an interfaith conference at the time. “One of his members had talked him into uninviting me,” Mr. Wright said, referring to Mr. Obama’s campaign advisers.

And "shabbos"? Does that church observe the Jewish sabbath?

Napolitano, et al endorse him. They had to have known this shit. They have participated in tearing this party apart right through the middle.

We have have been screaming that he hasn't been vetted and now look. We are screwn. He is going to have to drop out.

But here's the problem...this will kill him in the General Election...We are about to nominate obama and then lose the GE. The rupukes will run with this reverse-racism, anti-white, anti-american crap.

It just makes me mad...why weren't things looked at more closely? People like Kennedy could have advised him earlier: stop going to that church, distance yourself before running, etc......change churches....

Clinton will lose the primaries..that's a one deal...and now...Obama is going to sink like a rock in the GE.

Obama is NOT his pastor, his pastor does NOT speak for him, the fact that's it's such a HUGH issue on here makes me think I'm at Freeperville once again.

As much as you wish it might happen, Obama is not going to drop out because of something his pastor said. Can't HRC's supporters leave this bullshit to the repukes?
