Hello, Lemmings...
Enjoying your party? Where's everybody going? To the edge of the dance floor? You mean, that edge over there? The one that drops off suddenly?!?! Hey, let me outta here! HEY, stop pushing!!! Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! Aaayeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All of you DUers who are avidly participating in the "he said, she said," "their mudslinging is FAR worse than our mudslinging," "race-baiting," "misogynistic" crap currently eclipsing the discourse in the Democratic Party need to consider one basic fact:

you are doing exactly what Rove and the Corporate Megalomaniacs want you to do.

You are a bunch of lemmings--about to plunge off the precipice and drown in your own hubris.

The Democrat you support is irrelevant as long as you gleefully participate in the Rovian divisiveness that frames our nation's political discourse. It's a set up, and you all seem oblivious. What's it going to take to wake up the lot of you?!

Phew!!!! Luckily, I've managed to extricate myself from the middle of this puling mass. The rest of you look poised to slide off that cliff. Oh, well, what else can one expect from a bunch of lemmings...

11. It's the comic book childhood in me coming out.
Also, the Sci-Fi serials, and all the other venues wherein such hyperbole abounded.

10. You only surmise that I am clippity clopping into the sunset...
My activism continues, unabated. My sword is unbloodied because I prefer to peacefully encourage people to work together. Furthermore, I refuse to remove my rose-colored glasses, because I ABSOLUTELY believe the Human Spirit will prevail!

Actually, I had hoped to see a response such as yours. I would like to encourage you to embrace this thing you are working so hard to push away. Are you defensive because you see yourself in that crowd of lemmings? What have you done to push for unity rather than divisiveness?

If we don't stop shitting on each other--both personally and politically--we will never progress. I had hoped my post would tweak the DUers who are chest-thumping for their candidate while mud-slinging at the other candidate. Just what does such behavior accomplish?

I don't think any of us want to be lemmings, but it takes far more energy and time to get beneath the media messages and the dogma that continues to relegate us to lemming status. I have hope that some DUers will read my post and wonder if they're missing something about their own or the other candidates, or about what the MSM is trying to shove down our throats. Over the last few months, most DUers seem to have swallowed the massive red herrings promulgated by Rove and the Corporate Megalomaniacs orchestrating the next election. This worries me.

Please, don't be a lemming. Look at what's happening on a macro level. Then, please be an activist for unity. Humanity needs FAR more activists and FAR fewer lemmings.

I remain hopeful, but I refuse to participate in the lemming-like behavior I've highlighted in my original post. I find such Rovian tactics digusting and puerile (that goes double for you, Jersey Devil...hopefully your lemmingness is limited to DU, as suggested by your plethora of posts).

BTW, for those who pointed out that lemmings over a cliff is a myth--thanks, but I already know that. I chose this "myth" because of its populist status--a great many of us recognize the myth and all that it implies.

Bizarre. I totally believed it my whole life too.

Weird.

You're right though, that we're being manipulated.

9. plonk
Plonk is a Usenet jargon term for adding a particular poster to one's kill file such that the poster's future postings are completely ignored. It was first used in 1989 and by 1994 was a commonly used term on Usenet regarding kill file additions.

The word is an example of onomatopoeia, intended to humorously represent the supposed sound<1> of the user hitting the kill file. It is also sometimes given as an acronym standing for Please Log Off, Net Kook, though this is likely a backronym. Other used expressions are "put lamer on killfile" <2> and Please Leave Our Newsgroup: Killfile!
