11. CNN went with a mild version.
They didn't show "God **** America" or Rev. Wright mating with the rear of the pulpit. Wolf and company also warned again and again that some might find the excerpts of Rev. Wright's sermond offensive.

I'm home recovering from the flu, and I didn't see any mention of this on MSNBC, either.

the only hope is that the air gets cleared. but I don't think it will.

The GOP will keep this alive through November. It is just perfect for their sick politics.

And what Hillary does or does not do is irrelevant. She can't "win" on this one any which way.

24. I am completely happy with it. It is exactly on schedule
In a few days we will have the obligatory 'Cocaine use' and after a few more days 'Muslim' and so on. If the Clinton's think that there is anything in the works that will reverse the outcome of the elections they are even more out of touch with the electorate than I had previously thought they were. After about 3 weeks of this the PA electorate will be sick of the same old political machinations and the polls will draw close again. Clinton wins the popular vote - gains a 8 delegates and we go on and this story will have grown old and irrelevent, which of course is exactly how it should be viewed.

22. The video dump started last night
I've always known Wright said controversial things, but I hadn't seen much video before.

FOX started showing a lot of video clips last night and they were on you-tube within minutes.

It's most likely a Republican operation. With the nomination up in the air, they really cannot wait until August to start defining Obama. It looks like they waited to see whether Hillary would be knocked out on March 4, then, realizing this thing is going to drag on, decided to commence operation Obama.

They were painting Obama as a Israel/America hating radical because of this. And now its replaying here in a quite sad familiarity.

In truth, his pastor's comments are very common sentiment on the south side of chicago. That part of America has not been good to the African-American community and neither has American history.

14. TEXT:
Reverend Jeremiah Wright is Barack Obama's outspoken pastor and someone the Democratic frontrunner has called his spiritual mentor.

Now Reverend Wright is facing a storm of controversy over a 2003 sermon that's just coming to light.

"God bless America. No, no, no, Goddamn America...that's in the Bible for killing innocent people," said the pastor in his sermon nearly five years ago.

Those remarks are included in a DVD set of Wright's sermons delivered at Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ, and sold on their website.

Wright made another sermon just five days after the September 11th terrorist attacks that read: "We are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost."

Last year, Obama's church gave its Jeremiah Wright "Man of the Year" award to controversial nation of Islam leader, Louis Farrakhan.

Obama immediately criticized the award and has denounced and rejected Farrakhan's views.

Wright announced his retirement last month. He was Obama's pastor for the last 20 years, and the Illinois senator's book "Audacity of Hope" is even titled after one of Wright's sermons.

Obama has often said that he disagrees with what his aides call Wright's "inflammatory rhetoric," saying on one occasion, "I don't think my church is particularly controversial."

An Obama spokesman talking with Good Morning America has said that Obama has repudiated any anti-American sentiments made by his preacher. "I think it's wrong to hold any political figure to the views of his pastor," continued the spokesman.

On FOX News' Hannity and Colmes, commentator Jeanine Pirro said, "I would venture a guess that a lot of people go to their churches or synagogues, don't agree with everything their preachers say."

A spokesman for Obama said the candidate doesn't think of the pastor in political terms, and adds that Obama "deeply disagrees" with some of the things the pastor has said.

49. How can you possibly attend sermans for twenty years and not share the views of your preacher?
"God Damn America" is not only a polical statement. It is a religious statement at the same time.
You simply dont attend if you dont agree.
My parents have attended the same denomination church as Obama's ,The United Church of Christ, for 70 years. It is a very liberal denomination. They have gay members and I believe preachers, and it is multiracial.
If they didnt agree with what the preacher said at any time , they would no longer attend.
This isnt going away until November.

"An Obama spokesman talking with Good Morning America has said that Obama has repudiated any anti-American sentiments made by his preacher. "I think it's wrong to hold any political figure to the views of his pastor," continued the spokesman."

But, from what I understand this is THE CHURCH for folks in Obama's Chicago District....so since he's a Politico...it would seem he feld comfortable there. I'm not a politician...but couldn't stand the RW'ers that I had to be around in three churches. They were "In Your Face" and not working for "good of the community" but to convert me to BUSH!

112. That's bullshit - think of the Catholic Church.
Think of no divorce, no birth-control, no abortion, no pre-marital sex, et al. Do you honestly think all the people who attend Catholic Church practice what the church (and sermon), preaches?

I can answer that for you. The majority probably doesn't agree - yet they still attend. The Priest might say something they disagree with, and they just let that slide, as well. It's their church, they attend, and then they go home and live their lives exactly the way they want to live them, making their own decisions.

I don't believe in any organized religion anymore, but I'm what you'd call a recovering Catholic. When I DID attend church, it was not to be told how to think or feel - it was about God and worship. The sermon was, in my opinion, the opinion of the Priest - nothing more, nothing less. I took what I could use, and left the rest behind.

Preachers and Priests have opinions, and they do express them. If everyone who didn't agree with their opinion at one time or another, left the church, there would be a whole lot of empty churches.

This bullshit has nothing to do with Obama and anyone with half a brain should understand that.

31. The Right-Wing Project to Cast Obama as a Muslim and Anti-Semite
The Right-Wing Project to Cast Obama as a Muslim and Anti-Semite

By Ari Berman, The Nation. Posted March 13, 2008.

He's been defended by AIPAC on his Israel views, made it clear that he's Christian, yet the media keeps swallowing right-wing lies.

He's a Muslim. He was sworn into office on the Koran. He doesn't say the Pledge of Allegiance. His pastor is an anti-Semite. He's a tool of Louis Farrakhan. He's anti-Israel. His advisers are anti-Israel. He's friends with terrorists. The terrorists want him to win. He's the Antichrist.

By now you've probably seen at least some of these e-mails and articles about Barack Obama bouncing around the Internet. They distort Obama's religious faith, question his support for Israel, warp the identity and positions of his campaign advisers and defame his friends and allies from Chicago. The purpose of the smear is to paint him as an Arab-loving, Israel-hating, terrorist-coddling, radical black nationalist. That picture couldn't be further from the truth, but you'd be surprised how many people have fallen for it. The American Jewish community, one of the most important pillars of the Democratic Party and US politics, has been specifically targeted . What started as a largely overlooked fringe attack has been thrust into the mainstream -- used as GOP talking points, pushed by the Clinton campaign, echoed by the likes of Meet the Press host Tim Russert. Falsehoods are repeated as fact, and bits of evidence become "elaborate constructions of malicious fantasy," as the Jewish Week, America's largest Jewish newspaper, editorialized.

What floods into one's inbox these days bears little or no relation to Obama's record. "Some of my earliest and most ardent supporters came from the Jewish community in Chicago," he has said. Obama ran for the Senate promising to help reconstitute the black-Jewish civil rights coalition. His first foreign policy speech of the campaign was before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), where he pledged "clear and strong commitment to the security of Israel." He has occasionally angered pro-Israel hawks by urging direct negotiations with Iran and Syria, but Obama's foreign policy record is well within the Democratic Party mainstream. He's committed to a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians, supported Israel's incursion into Lebanon in 2006 and has criticized Hamas. During his campaign for the presidency, Obama has been defended by AIPAC, the neoconservative New York Sun and The New Republic's Marty Peretz, a noted Israel hawk. And yet no defense of Israel by Obama -- or of Obama by the pro-Israel establishment -- seems to be enough. "When one charge is disproved, another is leveled," says Rabbi Jack Moline, who leads a synagogue in Alexandria, Virginia.

It's nearly impossible to decipher where the smears originated . The Jewish Telegraphic Agency traced one e-mail back 200 people before it stopped with a filmmaker in Tel Aviv who didn't receive a return address. "No one knows if it's the Clintons, a rogue agent or a Rove agent," says Congressman Steve Cohen, a Jewish Obama backer who represents a largely black district in Memphis. Likely it's a combination of the three.

68. HEADLINE: God Damn America, U.S. to Blame for 9/11

http://www.abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=4443788&page=1

Obama's Pastor: God Damn America, U.S. to Blame for 9/11
Obama's Pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Has a History of What Even Obama's Campaign Aides Say Is 'Inflammatory Rhetoric'

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's south side, has a long history of what even Obama's campaign aides concede is "inflammatory rhetoric," including the assertion that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own "terrorism."

..

An ABC News review of dozens of Rev. Wright's sermons, offered for sale by the church, found repeated denunciations of the U.S. based on what he described as his reading of the Gospels and the treatment of black Americans.

"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people," he said in a 2003 sermon. "God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."

In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda's attacks because of its own terrorism.

"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001.

But Wright himself made the statements and allowed them to be videotaped in the first place so he has nobody to blame but himself for the repercussions. It's not a "smear campaign" if they're only putting the truth out there for people to see.

87. As the daughter of a radically left-wing minister, i am sad to see this
being used to damage Obama. People go to a specific church for a lot of different reasons and, although the minister is generally the congregational leader, he or she does not speak for the congregation or it's members.

My father gives very fiery sermons, generally taking a stance far outside of what most people would say, in order to stimulate thought, discussion and reflection.

That being said, I do think there are many who will use this to hurt Obama and I am sad that that will happen.

I also felt that the Ferraro incident was blown way out of proportion in order to harm Clinton. These kind of personal attacks just don't fly with me.

117. LMAO! Ignant whites weren't going to vote for him anyway
Ignant:

Proudly, willfully ignorant. Holding up one's ignorance as a virtue, and using it as rhetorical and moral leverage. cf. Ignorance.

While ignorant implies doing or saying something foolish not knowing any better, ignant implies that the person knew damn well and chose to act foolish anyway.

Street slang ya know? So don't worry worry your pretty little head that "it'll hurt him BAD" in the GE". Smart people don't fall for the ignant manouverings of the HRC campaign and its supporters.

Half this country, believe it or not, does know shame. But then again, half the country ain't ignant.

119. There are plenty of intelligent whites who will not care for this swill.
The fact that he sat there for 20 years, speaks volumes.

Racists aside, most really try to be fair, open, caring and empathetic all the while feeling guilt from what the ancestors in America have done.

This will make many wonder why they try so hard when it falls on deaf ears and why they want to keep punishing themselves for what others have done. You can only heap so many insults upon a group.

116. Such Utter Ridiculousness.
:eyes: Obama's Pastor says something (which is true BTW) and they try to pin it on Obama as if he has control of whatever comes out of another person's mouth.

I hope people will see through this idiocy and this cheap stunt will turn around in Obama's favor!

138. What are you talking about? change my mind
about the show being on t.v.? I've expressed no opinion about the info in your OP.

I want to say that I don't disagree with everything Wright has said...but you don't go around saying God Damn America...not as an American and ESPECIALLY not as a Christian. That is the antithesis of everything Christian.

Wright comes across as an American hating, white hating kook and that's not going to go over well with much of America. Obama can't distance himself because Wright has been his MENTOR for 20 years, and quite frankly Michelle Obama comes across sounding, to a lesser degree I grant you, like Wright. Her comments about not being proud of America will start making press again in relationship to what Wright is saying. If this story gets traction Obama will be unelectable in the G.E.
