.

But at what cost? The very best scenario by which that could happen would be so destructive that our party would be out of power for generations to come. And our friends on the Republican side would have all the time they need to steer the country into fascism, and the world into Armageddon.

I know that Hillary Clinton is a hero to many of you, and I understand your fervent desire for her become president. You believe she is the best qualified and most viable candidate. But I am begging you to think objectively. Given the delegate count, the vote count, and the states count,

Like it or not,
fair or not,
right or not,
best candidate or not,

Hillary Clinton CANNOT become our nominee without DESTROYING the party.
Which means that she cannot, and will never be, our president. The intense acrimony on DU right now is just a tiny taste of what's to come for the Democratic Party if Hillary does not gracefully concede. And soon.

So am I saying that “the sky is falling?” YES, I am. Our party is dramatically weaker today than it was 3 weeks ago. You see, unlike the sky, political parties can - and often do - fall to pieces.

Now, before you call me an “Obamaton”, or sling insults about “cults”, know this:
Obama was a distant THIRD choice for me, after Gore and Edwards. I have never donated to Obama, I possess no Obama paraphernalia, and I have never uttered the words “gobama” or anything of that ilk. I’ve been a Democratic activist for 30 years, fighting for YOUR candidates, and YOUR values. So tell me I’ve got this wrong. Call me an asshole if you like. But please do YOURSELF a favor and refrain from telling me that I can’t think for myself.

Please sign the Petition: “Super Delegates: Stop the Damage, Pledge for Obama” IT's FREE - but be aware that the iPetitions site throws a donation page at you - so just close that and sign. (This is the way all the petition sites work, unless you pay out of pocket, which I personally cannot do.)

Wow, I think even Tokyo Rose gave up after Hiroshima. You guys are good. Surrender, now; you're only hurting yourselves and the party.

5. I disagree. I think Hillary Clinton can pull this off and unite the party at the same time.
She will win handily in PA, FL and MI will have a revote which will swing in her favor and she will gain enough delegates from other states to bring her close enough or in line with Obama. With a very close race, the superdelegates will consider who is the best candidate, I believe this will be Hillary.

At the same time our country will realize that she is the most accomplished, experienced and insightful candidate to lead our nation.

Thanks.

19. That the "best scenario" - and it still would result in DESTROYING our party
Even if everything falls out the way you say, and even if, as a result, "the most accomplished, experienced and insightful candidate" (the one you're clinging to) becomes our nominee, she won't go on to become President because the party will have broken in two underneath her. And your rosy scenario requires this internal fight to go on all the way to Denver - leaving her just a couple of months to campaign against McCain - who, by that time, will have cemented a his lead.

Rush Limbaugh said yesterday "those bozos can't even run their own party. You want them to run your healthcare?!"

He has a point.

6. The Democratic party will not sacrifice itself so Clinton can deal a nomination
It is not going to happen, they will not let it break up that way. Obama has won unless he starts eating babies and pooping puppies.

13. the right petition, at the right time, in the right hands, can work wonders
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 06:36 PM by DeadElephant_ORG
bear in mind that we're only trying to cause a couple of dozen human beings to step forward now, instead of waiting. They see the infighting and the damage. They have an interest in stopping it. This is no big "ask".
