and nothing more then more bullshit from the languishing Hillary campaign. She should be ashamed of herself.

Reasons this won't matter:

1. It came out at a great time for Obama. Six weeks is a long time and whoever (Hillary) wanted to attack Obama with this used up the best of whats out there already. In guy speak, they blew their load too soon.

2. Obama is going to lose PA anyway. This will have no real affect on the outcome of that primary.

3. This inoculates him from Pastor Wright attacks in the GE. He answers it now and people aren't going to care come November. In fact, I don't really think people care right now.

4. Hillary and McCain have their own crazy preachers. McCain isn't going to be able to say much when he's endorsed by Hagge and Robertson

5. This is being used as a defensive move to get the press off of Geraldine Ferraro. All this is doing is making her story go away, its obviously not making a story for Obama. The problem is, people already think, because of the huge media coverage, that Hillary is running a racist campaign.

6. Obama separated himself from Wright long ago, Wright doesn't speak for Obama, and has no official place in the Obama administration

7. Wright didn't say anything that Liberals haven't been saying for ages. It can easily be argued that 9/11 was caused by American foreign policy. It was a sentiment that was quite popular around here before the Hillary-DINO's came onto the scene.

So while the Hillary supporters on this board are drooling and thinking that they can create this story out of nothing (look in their supporters forum) they are really just showing how foolish they really are (again).

Keep it up guys, you make this easy.

1. When did Obama separate himself from Wright?
I wasn't aware of that. If that is the case it will make our lives much easier. I wasn't sure how to respond when one of my mom's friends in PA asked her about it and she called me to ask if I had a response.

2. He's compared Wright to a crazy uncle that says thing that makes the rest of the family cringe
He's also said MULTIPLE times that Wright doesn't speak for him and that he doesn't have to agree with everything that the preacher at his church says.

from a "crazy uncle" who makes people cringe on occasion. I don't think Obama just "tolerates" Wright because he must - he has choosen to be a member of his congregation for 20 years; and it is only now, now that what that guy is all about is known AND Barack is being questioned about it, that he distances himself from him - a little?

I want to know more about this issue. (but we don't need 100 posts here - I will do my own research and wait for more from Obama)

56. last time a candidate's religion was an issue was Kennedy's Catholicism
The Irrelevance of Obama's Minister
By M.J. Rosenberg - March 14, 2008

...The last time a candidate's religion was an issue was Kennedy's Catholicism in 1960. Kennedy's priest, Joseph Cardinal Cushing, was a pretty old school Catholic with all the old school Catholic political views.
Did that discredit Kennedy as a candidate?

Sadly, it did with alot of people. Bigots across the land cited his church as a reason not to vote for him, cited Cushing and the Pope as scary political influences on a JFK Presidency, howled about what Kennedy's faith indicated about the kind of leader he would be.

But that was 48 years ago and, today, we call the people who used Kennedy's religion against him ignorant bigots. Now we call them political strategists.

propping this up was his appointment to Obama's "African American Religious Leadership Committee" before he made that Jan. speech. I don't know a whole lot more about the board (whether it's a paid position or not) but that seems to be the the political link that's been put forward from some right now.

6. It will destroy him in the general.
The RNC will tie together all the rumors they've been circulating. They'll portray Obama as an American-hating black radical with Muslim roots. He doesn't wear flags, he doesn't stand for the National Anthem, he hates the Pledge. Someone will link him to the Black Panthers or Elijah Muhammad. Reverend Wright will be the thread that ties it all together. Brace yourself.

Did you read mine?

Nothing will innoculate him from what the Republicans will do. It might help him prepare. Kerry and Gore where a hell of a lot more experienced, and they couldn't handle it. Maybe Obama will be different. Maybe the mood of the nation will make the difference. But if he laughs at it like you, start figuring out who you like for 2012.

21. Listen to Jeremiah Wrights sermon, and more on his relationship with Obama
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 06:50 PM by obamian
Could someone start a new thead about this? I've made too many in the last 24 hours. But here are some additional details you can use to defend Obama against attacks.

Here is the sermon "Audacity to Hope" that inspired Obama to join Jeremiah's church:

http://mp3.christianity.com/mp3/mp3repos32/MMYSEES/317_60682_JeremiahWright__TheAudacitytoHope82A.32.mp3

Jeremiah wright on his relationship with Barack Obama:
Q: Barack Obama calls you his spiritual mentor and role model.

Photo Of Wright A: He's kind in his use and choice of language. Someone just asked me about mentoring Barack and I said, you know, Barrack came here like he is now. I can't take credit for that. Barack has always been someone committed to grassroots organization, committed to the poor, committed to all people, committed to trying to find common ground. In fact, when I met him I called him the dreamer, and I'm laughing because the night he was elected he asked me to deliver the opening prayer. And before I led his supporters in prayer I said I just want to say to you publicly -- your dream has come true. And I said that because when I met him he came into my office with all these wonderful ideas. He was a community organizer ... He was the organizer of all the churches in Chicago and got us all working together across the denominational lines. And I listened to him and I said, "Do you know what Joseph's brothers said to him when they saw him coming across the field?' He said, "No." I said, "They said behold the dreamer. You're dreamin'. This ain't going to happen." Well, the night he was elected I said your dream has come true, because he had pulled off bringing together disparate people, ethnicities, interests, from down-state -- I've been in Chicago since '69, and it's always been Chicago versus the rest of the state. He's been down-state and gotten miners, farmers, people in Cairo, Illinois, people who wouldn't even think about Chicago much less a black person voting for them, because he'd shone an interest in them, because six years in the state legislature have show he really cares about people, that he's not waving any banners or flags about my way or the doorway, you know, black power -- no, people power. That we can -- black, white, Hispanic, Asian -- we've got kids to raise, we've got neighborhoods to keep safe, we've got women and children to be concerned . We all have common interests. Well, that kind -- he was like that, he was like that. And, you know, I'd like to take credit and say yes, I made him who he is. No, I didn't. He was like that when I met him. He's been like that 23 years now. And right after he was elected I was at the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ. And they said what word of advice would you give to Senator Barack Obama now that he's United States senator? That you please stay the same now that you're in the United States Senate as you've been across the years, because that's very important.

Is this the worst thing they can find on Obama? That just shows the ethics of Obama, that they can't find anything really bad that he has done.

First they put all this effort into spreading emails that were successful in making 18% of Americans think Obama is a Muslim, according to NBC News.

Now, they are changing course and publicizing the fact that Obama has been an active member of the same Protestant Church for 20 years. Maybe they are doing Barack a favor.

People aren't buying the propaganda anymore. And when they start researching the United Church of Christ, they'll find many notable republicans & democrats who were/are members of the same denomination as Obama. I say it's a win for him...it proves he's not a Muslim.

I think the people running Hillary's campaign are on cocaine...they certainly aren't thinking things through and their mudslinging continuously backfires.

51. No pressure. I support both candidates.
And I'll always be cool.

54. Priests Who Give Sermons Attacking Abortion and Birth Control
Obama needs a quick response, even though this whole issue is silly.

Are Catholic Clinton supporters going to have to respond if their priest gives a sermon seeking the outlawing of all abortion and the end of all birth control? Where does this stop?

55. This is easy to parry aside for Obama. Look for the definitive line today....
...the campaign follows Lakoff advice about framing issues and will not only deflect responsibility but will do it with humor and in a way that reflects badly on the opposition (McCain probably).

"I suggest that, when Rev Wright runs for President, you ask him about his comments. Ask me about mine."

"Pastor Wright is also a Yankee fan...that doesn't mean I need to be"

"For every Wright, there are 100 Hagees, Dukes, Robertsons, and Ferraros. I suggest that they are much more harmful to America than some fire and brimstone once a week"

"I reject those comments. They are not mine. I also reject Hagee's comments about Catholics that I also happened to hear. I hope I don't have to make an announcement about everything I hear that I don't agree with."

"I reject those comments. Here are a few other comments I disagree with: "

"I have a lot of friends. Do you want me to think about everything they say that I disagree with and give you my response? This is silly"

They'll come up a better one, I'm sure. It will only get legs if they let it and so far the Obama campaign has shown talent in responding quickly and with effective sound-bites.

63. Oh man, you are just hilarious...............
If this were Clinton you would be all over her, in fact, the whole board would. She's be called every name in the book and it would be just one more reason why she is vile and evil. From the Daily Howler, and oh how true this is:

Many people have said and done stupid (or perhaps dishonest) things during this campaign. On Monday, we spoke about “shirts and skins,” a way we fellows divide the world when we play pick-up basketball. But then, the human brain is wired that way; it was wired, during many years of prehistory, to see the world as “us and them.” As long as you submit to that wiring, you’ll feel the insults aimed at your tribe—and you’ll gaze dumbly at the emotions of others. You’ll understand your own team’s sense of offense—and be puzzled by Ferraro’s.

When you’re a shirt, you’re a shirt all the way, if we may quote the old musical.

And when you’re a shirt, only skins commit fouls! We fellows have seen how it works on the court—but it becomes a lot more harmful when it’s exported to political battles. In this campaign, major players on various sides have said dumb things—or behaved dishonestly. Race cards have been—or may have been—played on various sides. And no, it isn’t easy to know when these cards are being deliberately dealt. Although, of course, it always feels good to pretend we do know—to rant histrionically.

Some of you will now compose e-mails, describing the outrageous offenses committed against your virtuous side. You might find yourself talking about things which offended you; you might not find yourself wondering about the things which may have offended someone else. You may even find yourself explaining somebody’s motives—where motive may be hard to detect. You may find yourself in the grip of a high level of certainty.

In short, you may find yourself repping the shirts, railing about what the vile skins have done. You may be “emotional” too! When you’re a shirt, you’re a shirt all the way! We’ll suggest that’s how Rove wins elections.

71. So what you're saying is, the only reason this is important is because of old style partisanship
Great, this is just the kind of stuff that Obama is working to get rid of.

64. I'm not salivating,
it's Obama's problem to fix, not mine. The story's going to play out no matter what anyone here thinks about it, and no matter how well he fixes it, the GOP WILL use against him if he's the nominee.

65. Hillary is not responsible for this.
Fox news has been pushing this for months and its catching on now that he's the frontrunner. Personally I can't believe some of the things this man has said. I have never heard a preacher say things like "fix this shit" "god damn america" or make sexual thrusting gestures in the pulpit. I can only imagine what other crazy thing he's said we don't yet know of, there seems to be something new every time. Honestly I cannot believe Obama would call this man a mentor or go to his church for 20 years.
