organizations we have in the state.
I'm actually really surprised that people here act like they aren't familiar with the United Church of Christ denomination.
When our state passed the horrible, hateful anti-gay marriage ban, the UCC didn't bat an eyelid and celebrated same-sex unions of their members, or visitors looking to ceremonialize their commitment to each other.
The UCC had groups of volunteers working for the campaign against the marriage amendment.
The UCC regularly donates its church facilities for meetings for state progressive organizations including the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, Women's Network / NOW, Homeless Coalition and more.
It's pastor regularly contributes op-eds and LTTEs to newspapers tackling the most controversial subjects from the most progressive perspective
Their religious message is one of complete openness, inclusivity and nonjudgementalism.
I am not suggesting that every UCC church everywhere is the same. But I'm just saying some people are acting like this denomination is some kind of obscure fringe thing. Not only is that untrue, but the nomination tends to be very progressive.
I'm not posting this to make a political point. I just wanted to mention this.
I now return to politics. :P
