A Pastor and a Parishoner...
No, the title doesn't means this is a joke...

sheesh, I go to work, and come back to DU,
and all hell's busting loose...we are really going
off the rails...

So what that the Obama family belongs to the
Trinity UCC, and that Rev. Jeremiah Wright
preaches controversial sermons? Maybe it's his
sermons that draw people to church.. maybe his
teachings are controversial, and folks wanna be
in on the conversation..

The Bible tells us of many prophets and preachers
who preached incredible things, and yes, the
preachers got into trouble... but no one blamed
their parishoners..

Why do people of healthy mental accuity
and reasonable intelligence believe that
every parishoner takes every word from the
pastor's lips without question?

In my humble experience as a pastor,
I know that not every person in the pew
accepts everything I say without question.
It makes for interesting conversation.

I also know that in my lifetime of hearing
other pastor's sermons, I do not accept everything
that I hear from others. It makes for interesting
conversation.

I've heard many controversial sermons...
but I never shamed nor blamed the preacher,
nor the listeners. It was one person's opinion.

I've preached controversial sermons...
but I don't expect to be to be ridden out of
town on a rail. My sermons are my interpretations.

There are times in religious leadership that one's
perceptions differ, but that doesn't make for burning
a preacherat the stake; nor does it make it logical
nor reasonable to assume that we should burn
parishoners at the stake.

Good grief folks!
(Well, at least the meme that Obama is a muslim
is forgotten!)

1. I've walked out of churches who preach hatred towards gays. Just sayin.

I don't tolerate that shit.

I don't.

You hate gays, I hate you. SIMPLE

I was in a church were the paster told gays to go to hell! That was a sad day for me. Christianity had a whole new look and feel.

2. We stopped going to Mass a couple of years ago
Every Sunday we were "instructed" which group of American citizens to hate. That's not why I go to church. Fuck that. I'll spend my tithing on Beer!

3. I think a big part of the problem is that Barack apparently dedicated
his book to this nutty preacher.

6. I can't say for sure, but I got the impression that the preacher has
always oreached sermons like that. It really IS a problem for Barack in a National Election.

8. I know, I can't stand that shit. My mom said something not so nice about gays
I called her a Republican and we didn't speak for WEEKS. She was angry and I was angry.

I couldn't sit in a church with people saying shit that equated to hate or racism.

I date white guys, latino guys, asian guys, jewish, muslim, I've even dated a gay man.

Life is too hard to have to let shit like that assault your ears.

People say stuff like that, I'm GONE. M

5. Any 'church' that preaches hate...
Is not a church of the gospel.

If you've left your house of worship because
of divisive intolerance, look for another.
There are some wonderful places that build
community, service, and love.

You have no idea how much 'clean up'
I've had to do because of ministers who
think they rule the world with patriachal
hatred.

They're doing no one any favors.
