I am an Obama supporter, and I don't owe Hillary my vote
If Hillary Clinton gets the nomination, I don't owe her my vote.

But I owe it to all of the brave men and women who will be stuck in Iraq for at least another four years if McCain wins to vote for the Democratic nominee.

I owe it to the working people who are struggling and can't afford four more years of Bush-like economic policies to vote for the Democratic nominee.

I owe it to the people who can't wait four more years for health care to vote for the Democratic nominee.

I owe it to everyone who has fought for women's rights, civil rights, civil liberties, and other progress that could be undone by another Republican-appointed Supreme Court justice to vote for the Democratic nominee.

I owe it to the children and grandchildren I might have someday who will inherit a huge national debt burden if our government does not change course to vote for the Democratic nominee.

I owe it to all who have been victimized around the world by the Bush Administration's arrogant foreign policy to vote for the Democratic nominee.

I owe it to those who fought for progress before me and those who will inherit this country after me to vote for the Democratic nominee.

Therefore, I, Laura , pledge that no matter how mad Hillary Clinton makes me between now and November, if she is the Democratic nominee I will vote for her.

So, fellow Obama supporters, who is with me? Who will join in my pledge to remember the big picture in November? No matter how much we want Obama to be the nominee, no matter how we feel about the selection process, no matter how mad we get about her campaign tactics, no matter how mad the Clinton supporters at DU make us, no matter how many times we post on this board and threaten to withhold our votes, we must remember that this election is not about Clinton or Obama, it's about the millions of Americans whose lives are affected by it. So who's with me?

Note: this thread is for Obama supporters, but I encourage a Clinton supporter to "plagiarize" what I wrote and start a similar thread for Clinton supporters. I want to keep it separate so it doesn't become a flame war.

and I, Rob, would do the same if she were the nominee...of which there is no goddamn chance of happening.

4. You have convinced me
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 03:18 PM by paperbag_ princess
I was a fence sitter....I have been waiting on Obama to convince me...but you are right. While I think he is a risky nominee...I owe it to those that you have mentioned to take that risk if he is the nominee.

I might need to print this out and hang it on my fridge though

edit: I am a Hillary supporter...and will be until she wins or drops out...but I don't think my post interfered with your mission. Although reading the 2 posts above me makes me reinforce the idea that I will need to print this out and put it on the fridge...and the bathroom mirror and in my checkbook...and on a post it note on my computer....

10. thank you
While I am supporting Obama and think Hillary is a likewise risky nominee, I will vote for her if she gets the nomination. I won't be happy about it. I won't feel good about it. But the alternative of President McCain't is even less appealing.

5. I dont owe her my vote
If Hillary steals the nomination, I will vote against McCain. That is the only way I can swallow voting the name of CLINTON at this point.

If Obama wins I will vote for him and still hate his supporters with a passion.

7. Think about what conditions would need to take place for Hillary to even WIN at this point.
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 03:31 PM by bling bling
It would be ugly. I can't belong to a party that's stupid enough to elect a candidate that destroys her own party for power.

Clinton has demonstrated her loyalty to this party by being willing to try and get it to tear itself apart over her. She can't win in any way right now that would appear legitimate to many of us.

I will be a person without a party if she's somehow nominated. And Clinton and her willfully-in-denial supporters can blame me for it if it makes them feel better. At that point I'll be numb from the realization that this country truly has lost it's way.

Why would I have any reason to remain a Democrat after the grassroots from the ground up managed to enlist record new primary voters and donate records amounts of our money only to have Clinton go nuclear on us to win the nomination that EVERYONE knows she'll lose to the GOP.

Clinton isn't the lesser of two evils. She's the one who's ripping up my party. She's the enemy.

If she wins the nomination I'll shift my hope from this burning pile of ashes of a party to hoping for a third party to change the dynamics of the political landscape entirely. People who would have voted for someone like Obama seemed really interested and charged up (and financially willing to support) changing the direction of government. I'm not the leader type but I would have no problem at all joining a new party if a strong leader who is in touch with dissatisfied Dems and Repubs was to emerge and run in 2012 under a different party.

9. I owe her nothing at this point
And as far as I am concerned the way she has run her campaign like a scorched earth policy makes her unfit to be President. I may not vote for her this November if she gets the nomination now. If you asked me this a month ago I would have said of course, it goes without saying that I would support either one. But now, I can't say that anymore.

I am starting to think that McCain may be better then HRC as President. At least he's not from the right wing of that party and the congress will remain Dem to keep things on an even keel. I no longer know if I believe that she will make a good president or that she's even fit to hold the office. She is coming off as somebody who is willing to do anything to win, and her campaign is trying to destroy Obama, a good man.

Now thats today, and I am angry at her and her campaign and its supporters. If she keeps this negative campaign going she will reach a point where I will no longer be able to pull a lever for her. I hope it does not come down to that.

11. That's the point
We owe her nothing. She has run a dirty campaign and her supporters here make us nauseous. But that's my point: if she is the nominee, I won't vote for her to reward her, or her supporters. This isn't a game and that's not what voting is about. As much as I have lost respect for her, I am not going to withhold my vote to punish her, because that would be punishing all of the people who would be hurt by McCain's policies.

12. The big problem for her though is when people like me start to believe McCain is better then her
And believe me thats not what I want to think, but there may come a point when I feel she would be more dangerous then McCain. If I come to the conclusion that power is all she is after at all costs, then in my view she becomes more dangerous then McCain. In that instance I may go to vote for McCain and then hope the Democratic Congress will help keep him moderate. Thats where being fit to be President comes in. She is slowly destroying my faith in the process and the idea of her as President.
