But at what cost? The very best scenario by which that could happen would be so destructive that our party would be out of power for generations to come. And our friends on the Republican side would have all the time they need to steer the country into fascism, and the world into Armageddon.

I know that Hillary Clinton is a hero to many of you, and I understand your fervent desire for her become president. You believe she is the best qualified and most viable candidate. But I am begging you to think objectively. Given the delegate count, the vote count, and the states count,

Like it or not,
fair or not,
right or not,
best candidate or not,

Hillary Clinton CANNOT become our nominee without DESTROYING the party.
Which means that she cannot, and will never be, our president. The intense acrimony on DU right now is just a tiny taste of what's to come for the Democratic Party if Hillary does not gracefully concede. And soon.

Is the “sky falling?” YES. Our party is dramatically weaker today than it was 3 weeks ago.

You see, unlike the sky, political parties can - and often do - fall to pieces.

Now, before you call me an “Obamaton”, or sling insults about “cults”, know this:
Obama was a distant THIRD choice for me, after Gore and Edwards. I have never donated to Obama, I possess no Obama paraphernalia, and I have never uttered the words “gobama” or anything of that ilk. I’ve been a Democratic activist for 30 years, fighting for YOUR candidates, and YOUR values. So tell me I’ve got this wrong. Call me an asshole if you like. But please do YOURSELF a favor and refrain from telling me that I can’t think for myself.

Please sign the Petition: “Super Delegates: Stop the Damage, Pledge for Obama”

IT's FREE. The iPetitions site throws a donation page at you - just close it and sign. (This is the way all the petition sites work, unless you pay out of pocket, which I personally cannot do.)

11. Lifelong Democrat here......
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 05:44 PM by bvar22
...AND lately I've been thinking that the destruction of the current incarnation of The Democratic Party may be the only road to salvation. This Democratic Party has become so beholding to Corporate interests that it no longer resembles the Party of FDR, JFK, LBJ, or even Jimmy Carter.

The Party Establishment has already overturned the Will of the People by their performance (or lack of) in the 2006 Congressional Majority.

If the Party Establishment again overturns the Will of the People and hands the nomination to Hillary, the final curtain will be pulled aside, and there will be HELL to pay, not the least of which is 4 years of McCain and Republican majorities in Congress.

The Silver Lining may be either a massive reformation of the Democratic Party, but more likely, the emergence of a true Populist Party that actually represents Middle Class Americans who Work for a Living.

We live in interesting times.

Kucinich > Edwards > Obama.
I currently support Obama as the lesser of two "Centrist" evils.

On Edit: I support a more gentle reformation of the Democratic Party, and I believe that such a reform might be possible with Obama.
There is absolutely NO CHANCE for any significant changes under a Hillary DLC administration.
