2. all preachers are "nutsy" preachers.
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 01:53 PM by enki23
they differ only in extent, and direction, of their "nutsyness." if we're going to start holding people responsible for everything said by the pastors of their churches... watch the fuck out.

oh, and hagee was a deliberately-sought endorsement of john mccain, so it really isn't even a fair comparison.

16. It has everything to do with it-Wright is his spiritual advisor Hagee is a starkly chosen political
ally and very recently too

20. This "problem" has the potential to doom Obama in, at least, the south.

21. The south?
the south is represented by the party of the south-the Republicans

WE don't need the south (save for Florida) even though at least Virginia will be in play. The Republicans are basically backed into a corner with no real means of getting out (which will mean they will fight harder).

We are crushing in the suburbs too.

We don't need the south. The mountain west is the *new* battleground region. IF Obama gets the nomination we will have to at least hold with white male Dem voters and IF Hillary gets it hold and get out the black vote.

4. Hagee isn't McCain's personal preacher, that's a difference.
I think we can make Hagee an issue, but not in the same way.

7. Hagee's only a supporter. McCain can reasonably distance himself from him.
Wright, OTOH, is linked fairly closely to Obama. After all, he's the guy who came up with "The Audacity of Hope."

15. Wow
You Hillary supporters are all on point today.

Its too bad your doing all your aiming at a fellow Democrat (and our probable nominee) instead of the real enemy.

I think your priorities are pretty fucked up.

18. Wow
indeed

I am not a Hillary supporter. You didn't know that but then why would you?

My point, I thought, was to show that Obama has a long history with his now retired preacher while McCain recently sought, recruited, oandered to Hagee for his support.

22. The religious right has had a stranglehold on politics for a very long time, and they
are praised to the heavens by the Repukes.

Shall we revisit some of their more "enlightened" moments?

1. Falwell and Robertson blaming 9/11 on homosexuals and lesbians.
2. Robertson blaming Ariel Sharon's stroke on God, because Sharon gave away part of Israel.
3. Hagee's statements that the Catholic Church is the Anti-Christ and Jews brought their persecution on themselves.
4. Dobson's claim that SpongeBob is gay.

And on and on and on. These are just a few of the golden oldies.

No one has EVER held this group responsible for anything. To the contrary, they've given them the keys to the kingdom, so to speak.

Wright's statements, to me, are pretty vile. While I don't necessarily disagree with the general idea behind some of his statements, his method of expressing himself is over the top. But then again, so are the above statements by other "religious leaders" and many, many more.

23. So how about Hillary's 15 year membership in the secretive The Fellowship....
which has as members several hyper conservatives including a former head of the militant anti-abortion group Operation Rescue?
