Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 01:37 PM by acrosstheuniverse
And if not, do you really think the whole controversy will last until November? Especially after Barack gives his televised speeches at the Democratic Convention and then all over the country? The Swift boat attacks happened right after Kerry was nominated right?

51. Isn't that pitiful? It was once ours for the taking ...

The internal power struggles, and old grudges, played out by Democratic officials, insiders, and operatives ended up making BOTH our fine candidates damaged goods.

The GOP must be absolutely delerious with glee. What was once considered impossible ... a GOP Presidential victory ... is now quite feasible!

What a bunch of FUCK-UPS!!

57. I know the GOP is probably happy about all of this...
but there is so much utter disgust with what they've done to the country over the past 8 years that I still think Senator Obama can win in November. I NEVER thought Hillary could win (just not a likeable person w/ off-the-chart negatives), but I thought any other serious Democrat could win (Obama, Dodd, Biden, Richardson, Edwards ... even my personal favorite Dennis Kucinich - or as he's known around my house Mr. 1% ;-) ).

The key to victory is 2-fold. First, Hillary needs to cut the BS immediately. She & her husband talk about how genteel a GE would be vs. Gramps, yet we're seeing a pretty nasty display of old-style Clinton politics right now. She's hurting the front-runner, and that's a no-no.

2nd, Obama needs to find a way to make HRC happy (or happy enough that she gets the 65+ Dems out in force). I don't think VP is an option, but tell her you'll make Bill a SCOTUS justice or something. You can always claim that he failed a background check later on.

That will hopefully allow the party to focus on beating Gramps & the GOP (in house/senate race). It will also prevent the siphoning off of precious donor $$$ that is being wasted in a primary that is really over (except for the shouting).

JMHO.

As are the people who will be excited about the the paster...

I think that Obama disowned the guy's comments right after he became they were made...

I don't believe it will phase Obama...

And that's the important thing...

Beside that, people are a little more wary of ultra patriotism these days...

39. The whole concept of spirituality is moronic imo
They can all keep deluding themselves if they wish. However, what is really the ultimate difference between John Hagee and Jeremiah Wright? They both make their livings off of perpetuating a fake deity.

JMO.

I'm an Obama supporter, but I'm not going to try and defend Senator Obama for going to this church.

However, the OP was about how this might affect Senator Obama's chances for the party nomination. If the next few months are anything like the other months where we've known about Wright are any indication, then it won't affect him at all.

52. He will...and in the mean time there an ad contest from moveon.org
to cheer us up.

Dear MoveOn member,
Your mission, should you choose to accept it: make a 30-second TV ad that tells the nation why Barack Obama should be our next President.

If you and your friends have writing, acting, or video editing talent—whether you're a total amateur or a total pro—now is the time to use your creativity to help Obama win.

Today, we're launching an ad contest called "Obama in 30 Seconds." Anyone can make an ad about Obama between now and April 1. The public will vote on the best ads, and a panel of top artists, film professionals, and netroots heroes will pick a winner from among the finalists. (Judges include Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Naomi Wolf, Oliver Stone, John Legend, Donna Edwards, and Markos Moulitsas. The full list is below.)

We'll air the winning Obama ad nationally, and the winner will receive a gift certificate for $20,000 in video equipment. Whether you're definitely interested or need time to think about it, let us know—we'll keep you in the loop as the contest proceeds. Get contest details, sign up, and watch a short video of MoveOn's Eli Pariser describing the contest by clicking here:

Every day, political insiders and pundits tell Americans what to think about the presidential race. But now, it's YOUR turn to take the megaphone. We want to run ads that are of the people, by the people, and for the people. So consider making an ad.

If you have acting or writing talent and have a friend with video skills, join as a team! Or, pass this email to a friend who is good at making videos. This contest builds on the success of MoveOn's "Bush in 30 Seconds" contest in 2004—which resulted in thousands of videos and a great winner that aired nationally.

Obama has already inspired many supporters to produce independent videos, and you can now be part of this movement. By combining all of our creative talent with the power of online video, we can help push Obama to victory. Thanks for all you do.

And it's not going to be that big an issue in the GE, because McCain's spiritual adviser, Rod Parsley, not only has a silly name but is a complete nutjob. He's a full-on dominionist who believes it's our destiny to destroy Islam. Apparently he also thinks Christopher Columbus set sail for America so he could find a way to defeat Islam.

Ferraro's "affirmative-action" comments were actually more damaging to Obama, because many apparently thought it was a true statement, and now feel free to say so themselves. I expect, in my naivete as a white, that many black churches have preachers like this Wright guy--to me, black churches not just for Bible worship, but also a place for the black community to safely vent about racial/social injustice. Same as white evangelical churches are places for the Christian Right community to safely vent about the degradation of society Christian/American values, etc. Level-headed people see it for what it is.

47. WHY ARE YOU DESTROYING YOURSELVES
Maybe its because I am not an american, but I don't get why your party is destroying themselves. This crap was obviously dropped by the Clintons last night. They don't want this issue to die. Make Obama the crazy black man who is going to steal all the white women. If the Dem leadership had any courage they would stop this, but they are a bunch of cowards. This information was out there for a long time. The media had ignored or thought it wasn't important until now. Until the Clinton campaign started calling reporters about it last night.

John McCain will be president.

53. No. But it might give McCain the Presidency.
A leading Democratic Party elder once said an Obama candidacy would be a roll of the dice.
Craps.

59. Yes, unless Obama inoculates himself now (which he isn't doing)
Obama's been pretty tone deaf on some of this stuff. What is he waiting for? Just like he should have immediately denounced and rejected any and all support from Louis Farrakhan, he needs to reject this bum unequivocally. There is no upside in waffling on this issue. My patience is wearing thin.
