What about the anti-semitism and homophobia in Clinton's church?
"Since the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching, self-avowed practicing homosexuals* are not to be accepted as candidates, ordained as ministers or appointed to serve in The United Methodist Church."

"A leading Jewish group said the United Methodist Church's call to divest from 20 companies that do business with Israel "borders on anti-Semitism," upping the pressure on President Bush and Senator Clinton — both Methodists — to distance themselves from the church's statement."

3. I don't know much about the methodist church because I go to MCC
when I go but I have read the methodist church is pretty accepting of gay people as far as I know.

2. Let's not even get started on the bigotry in conservative fundamentalist denominations.
WHEN are we going to start taking GOP pols to task for the comments of people like Pat Robertson and James Dobson, who act as conduits for the Republican party. WHEN are they going to be investigated and fined by the IRS for blatant politicking from the pulpit?

4. THIS is the important point
Instead of damning (or, in the parlance of today's DU, God damning) a progressive African American church on Chicago's south side, how about we turn the ammo on the RW churches that enable the republicons in election after election? WTF is wrong with us?

5. For the record,
I think criticizing Clinton's church on these issues would be just as ridiculous as what people are doing to Obama's church.

6. There's a LOT of independent thought within the Methodist church about gays
I went to a Methodist church in California where one of the 2 pastors was gay, as well as a large percent of the congregation.

They call it a "reconciling" church, and like many denominations it's a bit of a split from the main church body.

7. So independent thought is allowed in the Methodist church,
but not in Obama's church? Members of the UCC couldn't possibly disagree with their pastor?

9. UCC is an open and affirming denomination
"No matter where you are on life's journey, you are welcome."

I belong to one in Houston, Texas. A bastion of tolerance in a rather intolerant city.

We have a very diverse congregation.

12. Hagee is just a political endorsement.
Wright is Obama's 20-year spiritual advisor. There's a difference.

Plus, Hagee isn't even in the mainstream of EVANGELICALS (i.e., conservatives/fundies), much less lmainstream Protestantism. He's a fringe nut, which makes it all the stranger that McCain sought his endorsement. McCain is not the most deft politician especially when it comes to religion.
