Just pretend for a moment, in an alternate universe:
The rethuglican empire is crumbling.

We as progressives have a choice to make between two candidates with almost identical platforms. Both come from underrepresented groups. Both are more qualified to lead the progressive cause forward than anything offered by the Rethugs.

All we have to do is choose without tearing our own party apart.

Who would assume that in the process of making that decision the following would occur:

Half of us progressives would be deemed racists.
Half of us progressives would be deemed sexists.
Some of us progressives would vote for neither.
Some of us progressives would claim we’d be more secure under the Rethuglican.
Many of us would disclaim progressive leaders and icons that we long held dear.

Of course this a complete hypothetical – you’ll note that none of this is based on reality.
No trolls were hurt in the making of this thought experiment.

Looks like dog shit, smells like dog shit, feels like dog shit, tastes like dog shit...lucky we didn't step it, huh?

13. At least be honest and call them what they are - center-right corporatists.
Liberal Democrats have had smoke blown up our ass forever. While we may be used to it, it would be a little more palatable if they just came out and said, "sure, we are not running a liberal. But stick with us ONE MORE TIME and we can make some progress." Lying to us about these "great progressives" will only make it harder to hold our nose come November.

14. That sounds like reality...
If I'm going to invite people to an alternate universe, it's gotta be all peachy.

People would feel awfully rained on if they felt that the candidates we are tearing one another's eyes out for won't change much.

10. Probably not good then.
Wondering about alternative universes in an alternative universe can only lead to bad mojo.

11. Yes, that's exactly what I would expect to happen
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 10:47 AM by Nederland
The reason we are descending into this abyss of in fighting is precisely because both candidates have almost identical platforms. If the choice were clear cut, it would have been over long ago. The reason that this got dragged out is because of the similarity in the platforms, the decision has to be made based upon tiny differences and highly subjective factors.

12. Well, then - let's just say screw it and take out a mall sized ouija board
or we could always just channel Jim Morrison and ask him.

Let's not take ourselves so seriously.

I know, I know...screwing with passionate people makes good sport...
