Anyone Think Obama Would Pick John Edwards
for VP? Has this been discussed? I think that could be a very healing move for the party.

3. It would be pure genius ...
as my first choice (Dennis Kucinich) hasn't exactly proven to be a big vote-getter to date :-(

5. Edwards may have changed his mind since the run up to Iraq,
but to me he still wrote the papers to get us to war. Not a good match for Obama.

6. Not likely imo
Since Hillary has caused Obama damage with the "experience" bullshit and her Commander in Chief Certification Test and McCain is certain to use Hillary's own words against Obama in the general, I would expect Obama to counter that with a veep candidate who has unquestionable credentials on foreign policy. Unfortunately Edwards would not fit the bill for that.

7. i think he'd be a fine pick but....
...since he was VP on the losing ticket last time, my guess is that obama will go for someone else.

remember, the dems need either OH or FL, so i would hope that our nominee's pick would be someone that can guarantee either one of those states.

8. I think he'll go with someone with executive branch experience
If he goes with someone with "just" legislative experience, I think he'd go with Dodd, Biden, etc.

17. yes, but if you are choosing between Biden and Webb
it would be tough. Certainly Joe Biden's credentials cannot be questioned, but Webb could put VA even more into play than it is now.

I am beginning to think maybe Obama should take the unprecedented step of picking such a veep now rather than at the convention to shut Hillary up about the "threshold" crap.

15. No
Whether his supporters recognize it or not, his perceived lack of experience will be a factor in choosing a VP. He won't pick a one-term senator as his running mate.

Furthermore, Edwards didn't help on the ticket last time.

19. I doubt because he doesn't balance well in some ways
Obama's biggest perceived weakness is that he has little experience. Edwards doesn't have extensive foreign policy or domestic policy experience. (In 2004, Kerry had extensive experience, so his VP could be someone with less.) He also adds no executive experience.

Edwards biggest perceived strength, beyond the basic requirement of being acceptable as President, was his charisma. That is not something Obama needs. The argument that he could bring in votes that Obama would otherwise lose - is harder to make because that didn't seem to happen in 2004. His performance in 2004 was also not stellar - his VP debate was at best mediocre and from Edwards own account, he refused to use the campaign' "Help is on the way slogan". In doing that, it sounds like he refused to honor Kerry's role as the leader - at a point where Kerry could not fire him or react without damaging his campaign. Why would Obama, who is younger than Edwards, think that Edwards would defer to him more than the far more senior, experienced Kerry? Not to mention the vulgar Edwards' comment about Obama suggesting he was insufficiently strong.
