Ferraro: The Obama Camp Should Apologize To Me

NBC Nightly News | March 13, 2008 08:05 AM

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/13/ferraro-the-obama-camp-s_n_91287.html

Geraldine Ferraro took her fight to NBC Wednesday night. Joining substitute host Ann Curry, Ferraro lashed out at the Obama campaign. She accused them of putting her remarks and questions of racism in the national spotlight.

"If anybody is going to apologize, they should apologize to me for calling me a racist," she said.

19. She actually is behaving like someone who's off their meds...
...kind of like the tail end of the Britney Spears crazy behavior with the British accent and such, right before the courts stepped in, and it was revealed that she was quite possibly bipolar and on a not-too-smart cocktail of recreational and prescription drugs.

As I've said elsewhere on DU, I've never cared for Ms. Ferraro's style, dating all the way back to the Mondale campaign, but there actually seems to be something mentally / emotionally "wrong" with her in 2008. She just won't let this go. Maybe she likes the attention. Who knows?

35. Saying she is off her meds???
You don't know anything about her yet you say things like this. It would do you some good to go study up on her a little bit and find out what she has done for the country before saying she's off her meds. That's is just an attacking statement that's not needed on DU.

45. OK, make sure to reply to all of the other people who have made the same observation on DU...
...and offer the same lecture to them, because I'm not the only one.

People who have served their country sometimes have issues. Ms. Ferraro has issues.

As far as it being an "attacking statement," that's a judgment call, and I respectfully decline being judged by you, because you don't know anything about me, either, and I'm sure you'd want to take the same advice you so freely give to others.

I just don't get it.

Is it such a given that black voters will vote for the (D) candidate in the general that the campaign can crap all over them?

And honestly, when did Ferraro become relevent? Why have we even had to put up with this??

15. Chutzpah-- I think we have a new classic example
the old classic:

chutzpah

1892, from Yiddish khutspe "impudence, gall" from Heb. hutspah. The classic definition is that given by Leo Rosten: "that quality enshrined in a man who, having killed his mother and father, throws himself on the mercy of the court because he is an orphan."

22. I apologize...
You're the wife of a mobbed-up New York realtor whose political career peaked with the worst presidential electoral ass-kicking the Democrats ever experienced, and who then slid into a Nora Desmond-like period of decline only to be dragged in front of the klieg lights to make a series of increasingly indefensible statements that really confirmed to nearly everybody who heard you that its really a good thing that you've been incommunicado for the past twenty-five years.

But hey. You're not racist.

28. I'm not familiar with the "DUzy nomination process," but...
...you should receive one for your post. Very accurate and succinct.

:patriot:

I especially like the Nora Desmond reference, because...although I know that many people here do not acknowledge it...the Ferraro incident can't be written off to "Hillary Bashing, Obama Boosting." There is something genuinely sad about this woman's current behavior. One element of that may be her inability to see herself through the eyes of the world. I'm not saying she should "seek approval"...that's also a very destructive form of behavior...but I have a hard time believing that she feels good about all of this.

26. Ferraro is hurt and indignant. I don't blame her.
Nothing she said was racist. If anything it was a compliment. But unfortunately Obama backers are going to try and twist anything to make it seem racist. Neither the Clintons nor Ferraro is racist. They have always fought racism. The media are pushing this as hard as they can in order to get an audience. Talking heads abound now on TV bringing up the same thing over and over. I thought the media's bent for scandal with Spitzer would divert attention for a while but I suppose I was wrong. I don't care who gets the nomination--Obama or Clinton but I refuse to bash either one or jump on a bandwagon of deceit. Have you all forgotten what a disaster the last 7 years have been? Yes, let's keep throwing insults at each other to take up space on this board and continue saying It's your fault--no, It's your fault. Your candidate is the worst in the world. No, your candidate is. Are we in Junior High or still in elementary school? None of us will get to be the prom queen or king. I am sure I have stepped on toes here, but it seems none of us can handle the truth.

44. Why did she bring up race in the first place? Making a comment
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 10:46 AM by still_one
that Obama wouldn't EVEN be in this presidential run if he wasn't black, implies that the only qualifications he has are the color of his skin. That doesn't attack Obama on issues, but on his color, and THAT is the problem

She obviously believes it is relevent or she would not continue to bring it up

Point blank, race isn't relevent, gender isn't relevent, it is ideas, experience, and judgement, and the candidates record. That she resorts to this, and continues to pursue it, indicates she does have a problem with people of color

Incidently, I am in my fifties. Ferrao was against busing, and for supporting tax credits for parents sending their children to private schools. While those positions are NOT racist, it could be viewed as an elitist view

No question she was a powerful advocate against sexism, and discrimination against women, which is extremely important and significant, but her feelings on race I think were expressed by her recently. When the person she is supporting, is against her comments that Ferraro continues to defend that should tell you something

37. When did the Obama camp come out and specifically say that?
I know a lot of people, including Clinton are slaming her for her comments, which are racists

It is amazing that she continues to defend her position

I believe that is intentional to try and appeal to the worst elements of our society, thinking it will help her candidate in the election

It is a very bad misjudment

I didn't call Ferraro "a racist" as opposed to saying she made a "racist comment" until she defended her comments with the David Duke "white racism" screed. That's when I knew, wow... I am staring at an honest to god racist.
