A Modest Defense of Hillary Clinton
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 09:36 AM by TheZug
I know a lot of people here are already outraged by moves by the Clinton campaign, but I really think that some of you need to calm down.

After all, this is a political campaign. Political campaigns are a tough business.

Yes, I know her statements comparing John McCain and Barack Obama have irked more than a few of you, but the fact is that she’s known John McCain a long time, and she seems to really like and respect him, despite his being the Republican nominee in the fall and pledging to continue the disastrous policies of the Bush administration. And she’s not really knocking Obama so much as throwing a bone or two to McCain, to kind of lull the old guy to sleep, maybe make him think she's going to withdraw and endorse him, so he won’t see what’s coming.

And I know that the question of her tax returns is troubling to some of you, especially when she’s criticizing Obama for his Rezko connections. But the fact is that the Clintons are rich, stinking rich, and when you make that much money in so short a time, there are bound to be some worrisome connections to shady or disreputable characters or countries who support terrorism. If she lets out this information now, the press and the Obama campaign will tear her apart before she even gets the nomination! But if she waits, it can come out after things have settled down, and there will be a stink for a little while, and then everyone will have forgotten by November. And just maybe she won’t have to release them at all.

Voting for the Iraq war was bad, I know, and it would have helped if she could at least admit a mistake. But she’s a woman, and so she has to appear strong in the face of all this sexism out there. If she admits she was wrong, she’ll look like a weak sissy-girl. And we should all remember that the vote came at a time when she was contemplating running for president. If the war had turned out well, and she had voted against it, she never would have had a chance. Plus she figured she could fix things once she was president.

And yes, her campaign tactics have been a little questionable regarding the race card. But you know, she’s just saying this stuff so she can get elected, at which point she will be a benevolent mother figure to African Americans and other minorities. And we all know the coloreds will come home in the fall. It’s just politics. Plus, it’s only fair that a woman get elected president before a black. Women were suffering under the oppressive thumb of men for many centuries before black slavery, back when all the darkies were happily banging the bongo drums in the jungle. Women get to go first, and then maybe some of those other people can have a chance.

If you really want to get Hillary elected so she can bestow upon us all of her wisdom and experience, you need to grow up a bit. The fact is, we ought to be mature enough people to expect her to use a few more tough tactics between now and the fall. For example, in the interests of getting her elected so we can all enjoy her liberal administration, I think it would be okay if she made a few more references to Obama’s quasi-Muslim background. Once she’s nominated and running to the center, I would be okay if she were to back off her support of the gays, maybe make a few jokes about diesel dykes to make clear she’s not a lesbian. And if she has to vote for war with Iran, I say that’s okay too, because she’ll fix things aright once she’s elected. It’s all just to get elected, people.

Now, let me be clear, there are definite lines I will not cross. If she were to endorse the Holocaust, be charged with serial murder, or insult my particular ethnicity or identity, then she’s just going to lose my support. I can't go along with “anything goes” tactics. But with that whippersnapper Negro to defeat first and all of those sexist, racist, warmongering pigs in the fall who are desperate to prevent the progressive liberal era she will establish, she’s just going to have to break a few eggs.

2. "tough business" is no excuse for racism. You need to grow up.
Emotionally and intellectually. Trying to play "reasonable" is not going to work. You're enabling this behavior by poo-pooing it.

8. Enough already; Hillary is bad news for the Democratic Party
She has her loyal following among the base, but she does absolutely nothing to bring new voters into the process, or to expand the appeal of our policies. Zero.

This is what the focus should be: Who can win in November and, just as important, who can govern? With her winning personality and her mind-numbing focus on the same 17 states we've always contested, she is severely wanting on both counts. That's what we should be talking about.

18. Nope. Obama has repeatedly apologized and taken responsibility for the malfeasance
of those in his campaign. He can't help what his followers OUTSIDE his campaign do, which is true.

14. Stopping the bone throwing....
is about 7 years and 4000 kids too late.

Yep! He gave a speech. HRC and McCain gave a vote. If one wants to see the difference between a speech and a vote go no further than an AFB in Delaware and watch what comes off the rear end of the C130's. Speeches don't fill the beds at Walter Reed, votes do. Try to parse the difference between a vote and a speech to your Great Grandchildren when they are paying off a $trillion debt. Explain the difference to future generations between a vote and a speech when the “YES voters”, with the exception of a handful, tucked their children safely away in some Ivy League College somewhere while other kids families agonized over funerals.

Like trying to hide a shadow from a setting sun, or rubbing sandpaper on a lions butt in a phone booth and not getting scratched, running from her voting record will be no easier!
