3. Have you stated that the congregation is lucky to be black or they wouldn't have a church?
If not, you're probably fine.

8. If I attended a white Church and my
pastor went on rants like Rev. Wright about the rich Jews controlling all the money and media in the world I would be called a racist or even worse.

11. I'm lost, you listen to Rev. Wright and tell me honestly that
would not be called racist speech if it was coming from a white man. If you visit the Trinity Church of Christ site and imagine that it is a Southern Baptist Church and substitute the word white for black you would say it was racist. Or if you substitute the words (rich white people) for (rich Jews) you would call them Nazis.

the word black substitute white and if you are honest you will see it.
Read Rev. Wrights talking points click on About us or any page and substitute white for black and what would you think if it was a White Church. I sometimes go to the Presbyterian church and there are zero black members there simply because there are very few blacks in the area and you aren't going to find things like the white religious experience or the white community or our motherland in white western Europe.

23. Just go to the home page and start browsing around
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 12:42 AM by doc03
and where you see the word black substitute white. I sometimes go to an all white Presbyterian Church it's all white because there aren't that many blacks in the area. If they had a web site that talked about the white religious experience or the white community or our motherland white western Europe it would be considered racist. If my pastor gave David Duke a Lifetime Achievement Award you would say we are racist.

on edit: Take off those Obama blinders and be honest, if you can't see it you are blind. I can't find the page that had Rev. Wright's comments on Farrakhan, seams to have been removed in the last month.

29. White people weren't lynched in the name of black pride
Simply substituting black for white is like saying that affirmative action is "reverse discrimination".

34. Problem with Black churches of course is that they have always been the
center of political life and sheer survival for many.

So yes, Jesus was controversial....and so are many of these churches.

That's why MLK was so involved in the politics of the day, from rejecting racism and being against the Vietnam war.

28. Wait, so Hillary supporters here on DU actually have a problem with Obama's church?
I thought people just had a problem with how it might appear to idiots during the GE and how the right wing media will try to spin it. It's pretty sad if anyone here is actually dense enough to believe those right wing talking points. I will choose to be cynical though and believe that Clinton supporters don't really buy all of that and they're just using this to further fill up their kitchen sink. It's too depressing to think that DU is actually overrun with ignorant racists.

30. To paraphrase MLK:
If you think segregation has been defeated, wait until Sunday Morning.

I had no idea what he meant until I spent a year and a half in in Atlanta (I was raised in Arizona), where they actually have, to this very day, "White" churches across the street from "Black" churches. Same faith, same creed, just... segregated.

So, are you a racist if you attend one or the other? No.

Are you a racist if you *choose* to attend one or the other based on the "color" of the congregation? I would say yes.

Just as I would say it would be racist if one congregation, or the other, rejected people based on their "color".
