Obama camp responds to Clinton memo.
Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 09:18 PM by pdxmom
This is just awesome! Some highlights:

a laudably bloggy spirit, the Obama campaign annotates a bravado-filled Clinton memo from earlier today ("Barack Obama cannot reverse his downward spiral."):

The path to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue goes through Pennsylvania so if Barack Obama can't win there, how will he win the general election?

Answer: I suppose by holding obviously Democratic states like California and New York, and beating McCain in swing states like Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Virginia and Wisconsin where Clinton lost to Obama by mostly crushing margins. But good question.

Pennsylvania is of particular importance, along with Ohio, Florida and Michigan, because it is dominated by the swing voters who are critical to a Democratic victory in November. No Democrat has won the presidency without winning Pennsylvania since 1948. And no candidate has won the Democratic nomination without winning Pennsylvania since 1972.

Answer: What the Clinton campaign secretly means: PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE FACT THAT WE'VE LOST 14 OF THE LAST 17 CONTESTS AND SAID THAT MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA WOULDN'T COUNT FOR ANYTHING. Also, we're still trying to wrap our minds around the amazing coincidence that the only "important" states in the nominating process are the ones that Clinton won.

This is not a strategy that can beat John McCain in November.

Anwer: I don't think Clinton's strategy of losing in state after state after promising more of the same politics is working all that well either.

4. LOL, no, you're fine ! I was sarcastically saying that the Clinton Campaign is "confusing" me.. I
swear, I can't keep up with the spin from one day to the next. I should have started keeping a Clinton Bullshit Daily Diary at the beginning of this, had I known. But hell, who knew??!!

Thanks for the post.. this was hilarious ! Obama could do nothing better really than point out how ridiculous they look through humor.

5. I think that's the point... Remember playing pin the tail on the donkey?
Some over zealous parent would spin you around so many times that you felt like barfing up that nasty dry cake and crystal light (and why the hell would anyone give that to a kid?). Then give you a push forward, as people shouted all around you right, left, up, down. In all the confusion, you try to peek out, but before your vision is clear - said parent gives you a shove in the wrong direction. Because after all - the birthday girl is supposed to win. It's her party, and we can't spoil it by letting her lose, or making her cry.

9. The Blight known as hilary clinton's campaign..
"Answer: What the Clinton campaign secretly means: PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE FACT THAT WE'VE LOST 14 OF THE LAST 17 CONTESTS AND SAID THAT MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA WOULDN'T COUNT FOR ANYTHING. Also, we're still trying to wrap our minds around the amazing coincidence that the only "important" states in the nominating process are the ones that Clinton won."

And as The Young Turk writes..

<snip>
"Even if Senator Clinton won the remaining nine contests with landslide victories, she wouldn't even get to within a 100 pledged delegates of Obama. Even if they re-voted in Michigan and Florida and she won by overwhelming majorities in those states, she still wouldn't be anywhere near Obama's numbers.

Her big claim to fame now is that she wins the big states and the swing states needed for the general election. I don't know why people take these claims seriously. First of all, so what? If she wants to win on big states alone she should move to a country where there are only big states. But in this country, where we have states of all sizes, she has lost.

Second of all, when did Massachusetts, New York and California become swing states? The election she theoretically won in Florida was not contested. So, her claim is that since she won Ohio, why don't we just give her the whole election?

10. Actually, the path to 1600 PA Avenue goes through DC, so if you can't win there . . . ?
