"FOX News purchased the video recordings of Wright's sermons from the church."
Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 08:48 PM by Bluebear
"Hillary is married to Bill, and Bill has been good to us. No he ain't! Bill did us, just like he did Monica Lewinsky. He was riding dirty."

FOX News purchased the video recordings of Wright's sermons from the church.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,337308,00.html

I will be so glad when this vile campaign is over with. Why is a pastor talking about "riding someone dirty"? Why is a church selling sermon recordings to FOX news? Oy.

27. And this preacher and his traveling revival show:

I'm surprised he hasn't had himself "raptured" Peter-Pan style at one of his productions to drive home his messianic status and his on-your-sleeve Christianity.

36. IRS Investigation
The IRS may be investigating Obama's speech to the UCC conference which is ridiculous. He didn't come close to crossing the line. His pastor's sermons do and if found guilty of crossing the line the church will lose their tax exemption. It doesn't matter if neocon churches get away with it, the IRS is cracking down on liberal churches. A church in Pasadena was investigated for having a peace sermon and was turned in because a conservative parishioner though it was anti Bush. It doesn't make it right but so goes the world we live in.

Read the IRS letter to the UCC. http://www.ucc.org/news/pdf/lettrirs.pdf

Watch Obama's June 23, 2007, address to General Synod. http://www.ucc.org/synod/video-archive.html

Read the text of Obama's speech.

Article about Obama's church

Churches usually don't get audited for community outreach programs which is what many of them call it when they have a presidential candidate come to speak.

19. That applies to attending a church for years
If one was offending by his views you would start going to a different church...Wright is also Obama's mentor...

You are right which is why it is great Hillary got rid of her. When is Charles Barron going to be denounced by Obama? It has been four months and still nothing from Mr. Unity. How about his national co-chair using the race card against Hill first and now to pressure black superdelegates to vote for Obama because he is black?

8. If you think HIllary's campaign is Obama's biggest problem, WAIT
to see what FOX does whith those tapes!

I keep trying to tell all of you that the Hillary stuff is good for the Obama campaign because it's giving him a small taste of what a GE campaign will bring. The Pubs are going to be MUCH WORSE on him than Hillary or any of her surrogates ever thought of being!

I sure HOPE someone tells his strategists about this FOX purchase! At least it will give them a bit of time to plan a good response. I'm having a hard time thinking of what that might be though. He can't very well denounce the Pastor of his church, but if he doesn't the Pastors words have really pi**ed off a LOT of voters!

Fox News probably bought them the way any other customer who wanted to have Wright's sermons on tape would. I have relatives who seem to enjoy watching religious services and sermons on video - I don't really get it but it's not that unusual.

I think you're leaping to conclusions and assuming Fox news negotiated the purchase of the church's video archive or something.

assume copyright issues would come into play, no? I mean, if FAUX buys a DVD from Best Buy that doesn't given them the right to air it on their channel.

Massachusetts (AP) --

Scientists are top university MIT today were agog today over a new discovery. Called a 'metaphor', the hitherto-unknown rhetorical device can be used by speakers to refer to something while appearing to be talking about something else. "This is tremendously exciting," said D. I. Ogenes, a rhetoritician from MIT's advanced linguistic laboratory. "With metaphors, we can finally winnow the wheat from the chaff, while leaving less discriminating audiences waiting for the short bus."

44. I don't think so
What content would these GOP commercials contain? From the article, this is what I come up with:

"Barack Obama goes to a church where the pastor trashes Bill Clinton! Vote for McCain! His pastor respects Bill Clinton!"
"Barack Obama belongs to a church that blurs the line between church and state! Vote for McCain! He'll keep religion out of the public square!"
"Barack Obama's now-retired pastor made racially divisive remarks and Obama has distanced himself. Vote for John McCain! He's proud of John Hagee's divisive remarks!"

Yeah, I see this as Republican gold. :sarcasm:

47. "Chances are" -- Faux Newspeak
Starting a statement with "chances are" is one of those things you do when you don't have any facts.

Only the religion-bashing contingent on DU would think that attacking Barack Obama and his church is going to work for the Republicans. All Obama has to do is defend the pastor's religion freedom and the Republican base will eat it up.

This is all he has to say: "I've said many times before that I disagree strongly with some of Rev. Wright's viewpoint, but I think its more important that, as Americans, our first Amendment right to preach what we believe in our churches is not infringed by either the government or attacks in the main stream media." They. Will. Eat. It. Up.

You show up every few weeks with some crappy shwag and then you act like I owe you. Totally lame, dude.

Anyway, this doesn't have any legs. The last thing the Republicans need to do is make the problem of associating with caustic preachers into a major campaign issue. The last thing the Republicans need to do is highlight improper political activity by preachers.

We're talking about people who rallied around on the grounds that his religious freedom was under attack. Look, I don't get it either, but that's the way these people think.

If Hillary Clinton wanted to do an enormous favor for Barack Obama, she'd go on the attack with this issue. The wingnuts will rally his defense on principle.

Mess with this religion business, and the Democratic party will lose the Black vote for decades to come.

Those pushing this will only have yourselves to blame......because those with the most to lose aren't African-Americans.
