Please tell me how Obama wins states like Missouri, Ohio, Pensylvania when he can't win red counties
What is giving superdelegates heart burn is Obama only wins urban counties, i.e. where black people live, in the most important swing states.

The pattern was there in Missouri and Ohio. The two biggest swing states.

Before you say I'm a racist which seems to be the Obama supporter MO for any post they disagree with now, look at the damn maps and tell me how Obama wins these states in a general election scenario without the artifically high black turnout we see in a democratic primary.

The rural counties where republicans do well went for Hillary by huge margins. These voters are the white working class and Obama will make these red counties even redder and he will need obscene margins in the urban counties to win and he won't be able to do it.

I know you don't want to hear this but Obama is going to get slaughtered in a general election. That's why the superdelegates haven't flocked to him by the hundreds even though he's mathematically clinched the pledged delegates.

They are scared shitless he's just a niche candidate like McGovern that will destroy the party.

4. Kerry won all but 4 counties in the 2004 Ohio primary
In a contested primary against Edwards and Wesley Clark.

What happens in the primary, while it is a decent indication of what might happen, isn't the be-all-end-all of how the state will break come the general election.

14. winning Ohio's primary is necessary but not sufficient to win the GE
winning the primary there is no guarantee, of course

but it's mighty unlikey that anyone can win the GE without first winning the Ohio primary

only 2 historical exceptions, and one of those did not have his name on the Ohio ballot (jfk)

6. I disagree with you and Clinton, I must be a sexist
Here are the states Obama has won:

Iowa, South Carolina, Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Utah, Louisiana, Nebraska, Washington, Maine, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Hawaii, Wisconsin, Vermont, U.S. Virgin Islands, Democrats Abroad, Wyoming and Mississippi.

Are you telling me he carried every single one just on the strength of urban counties? You sound desperate.

8. Neither Hillary nor Obama are going to win many red counties in Missouri...
Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 07:09 PM by Solon
The ONLY reason why Missouri is a swing state is because of the Urban Areas, otherwise its just a deeply Republican state.

ON EDIT: I meant in the general election.

It went for Bush last time and is currently represented by a Republican congressmen but has a Democratic State senator.

Missouri is an unusual state. There are a lot of rural Democrats in the state legislature.

Obama most certainly does have a shot in Missouri and can appeal to people in some rural areas.

9. Please do yourself a favor and look at this map:
http://politics.nytimes.com/election-guide/2008/results/demmap/index.html

Look at the county results for Washington, Minnesota, Nevada, and California.

Then tell me Obama does not do well in white, rural areas.

18. I can't speak for the other states
but if you look at California, HILLARY carried most of the Republican areas.

Orange County? Check.

Fresno? Check.

Redding? Check.

San Diego? Check.

Meanwhile, Obama got the more liberal areas.

Humboldt County? Check.

San Francisco? Check.

Santa Cruz? Check.

Davis? Check.

Any thoughts?

13. Obama cannot win the GE and that's why the supers aren't flocking to him
the entire dem party realizes this...even the obama campaign realizes it

when they lost Ohio, that was the final nail

Obama is just not able to carry major dem base states, and he cannot carry crucial swing states

the dem party and the supers know this

26. Wait, I thought the complaint about Obama
was that "all" of his primary/caucus victories were coming out of "red" states that "don't matter"? Now he's not doing well enough in the "red" areas? Sounds a little damned if he does, damned if he doesn't, to me.

27. In a primary election where there are multiple choice for the Dem nomination
A vote is one over the other is a vote for one's PREFERENCE of nominee. Because someone votes for one over the other in a primary, it doesn't necessarily follow that if your preferred candidate doesn't win the nomination, that you will vote for the opposing party (well, except maybe here in DU). If you're a Hillary supporter and Obama wins the nomination, that doesn't necessarily mean that you will vote for McCain in the GE. Some might vote for McCain. Some might even not vote. Same for Obama supporters.

Polls have consistently shown Obama to be stronger than Hillary against McCain.

I've been amazed at the number of DUers who either truly don't understand this fact or pretend not to for the sake of attempting to make some point. Seriously, this particular matter has really lowered my estimation of the collective intelligence of this message board.

31. Do you honestly believe that Hillary will not be a sole cause for a Republican rally ?????
Hillary is a repeat of Kerry. And your answer does readily admit that no non-white person can ever seek the presidency as a Democratic nominee basically because poor white people are racist. If they are Democrats, and they are tired of the garbage we've had for 8 years, they'll vote for our nominee, black, white, female or male. Same thing for women, if you want Roe v. Wade to go down in flames, just vote against Obama or stay at home.
