I'd like to know from those who would defend Ferraro's comments:
What if Obama's Finance Committee chair said:

"Senator Clinton is only where she is because she's a woman. If she was a man we wouldn't be talking about her?" Or, "Hillary is only where she is because her last name is Clinton. If her last name was anything but Clinton, she wouldn't be deemed qualified?" Or, "If she were a man of any color, we wouldn't be having this conversation. You can't criticize Clinton, because if you do you're called a sexist, so you just have to shut up. I'm being attacked because I'm a male. How's that?"

These kind of statements about race, heritage, gender, etc. are not helpful.

1. We're not talking about "Obama's Finance Committee chair", though
This is the most basic and most common logical fallacy of the lot, which we see time and time again across these forums. Evaluate Ferraro's comments on their own, regarding Obama. There is no connection or relevance to the fanciful "what if" that you propose.

6. I would say that a lot of people, including some
people on DU (who have pretty much stated so) believe what you posted above.

Ferraro has stated what a lot of people think. It's just a fact. I am willing to bet that even a lot of Obama supporters here know deep down in their hearts that Obama is where he is now largely due to the fact that he is Black. That if he were the same guy, only White he would not likely be where he is now. Oh, but to say that is racist. Yet some of the same Obama defenders will say Hillary is an old bag, a bitch, etc. and somehow that is okay.

Nobody can even say Obama is Black here anymore and not be called a racist. It has gotten beyond ridiculous.

9. Thanks rateyes, we really needed another flame bait thread from the pretend-hypersensitive fringe.
"These kind of statements about race, heritage, gender, etc. are not helpful."
So why are you making them?

10. She also calls, by inference, John Lewis a coward and Hillary a token
In this overlooked version on John Gibson's radio show she clearly implies that Lewis's endorsement of Obama is an act of cowardice.

The overall logic of her views really means that not only Obama but also Hillary are just token candidates.

In this version you can hear quite clearly her bitterness at having the nominaton 'being taken away from Hillary'. At one point

Gibson is speechless and is in the odd situation of defending democrats for making an informed decision which Ferraro laughs at.

She also calls Sen. Dodd's endorsement just 'guys sticking together' and calls herself a 'lunatic'.

12. Why would either candidate make it about qualifications at all?
What advantage could that possibly bring us over McCain?

If qualifications were important to voters, we'd have a Biden-Richardson race right now.
