Are a lot of voter bigots in more way than one?
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/epolls/index.html#MSDEM

Among those who said gender was an important issue, Obama won by 40% versus 12% among those who said it wasn't? Really?

This in addition to a huge racial split, and yes racism can go both ways, is disturbing.

2. I agree that bigotry is present in the wider election. But remember, this is MS.
Not necessarily the best place to sample opinions on race/gender.

3. Mississippi does not exist in isolation.
Other states and other groups of voters certainly have their problems.

4. I personally think that bigotry is being encouraged by many......
primarily the media, instead of being discouraged.

I think when Pennsylvania can call itself a "Hillary" state for virtue of some of what Gov. Rendell said, it begs the question as to who has the most to gain by encouraging this kind of attitude.

I think folks can choose to be racist or choose not to be. Like "herd" mentality, if it appears to be the "thing to do", then folks will do it.

Sad, but true.

I think a lot of us are learning a lot of things via this primary election, and education is priceless, and so it goes....

5. I am beginning to think this country has not changed nearly as much as we would like to believe.

7. I think the young people did.....but their elders are teaching them differently as we speak.....
My Black daughter just married her Italian/Irish Boyfriend, and they seem to be very, very happy, and so is his family as well as ours. They are ashamed at the way the media breaks down every primary on the Dem side by race in the way that it is done. They are young and can't believe it, because they have never seen it before.

I believe again that it has to do with that "herd" mentality....of the ignorant who band together and go back to their "Id" hate without realizing why they are even thinking like that. I call it irrational.

The saddest part is at this moment certain Hillary partisans sadly have their fingers crossed "hoping" that things haven't changed since the days when Black men were being hung from trees just for looking at White Women. They won't say it.....and they don't really want that....but hope that they find enough voters that do. :(
