Affirmative Action
It's an issue that's boiled my entire life - from the street action that provoked it to the backlash that still affects our political landscape. Geraldine Ferraro spoke for many when she pointed out that some African Americans, who happen to be born to privilege themselves, gain disproportionately from the practice, which was meant to help the underclass created by slavery.

She raised it, not me - but attacking her will only increase resentment toward an admittedly symbolic candidate. The symbol carries baggage, which Obama does not deserve. But Representative Ferraro understands the party's affinity for symbolism - and its pitfalls.

Whatever your response, I don't mind and won't reply. Silly season will end but the work will not.
