NY Times: A Fiery Ex-Congresswoman Hopes to Make a Comeback
A Fiery Ex-Congresswoman Hopes to Make a Comeback

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga., April 10 (AP) — Cynthia A. McKinney, Georgia's first black congresswoman, is trying to regain the seat she held for 10 years but lost, largely because of fallout from incendiary remarks about the Mideast and terrorism.

Winning will not be easy, even some of Ms. McKinney's fellow Democrats say. For one thing, her past statements may be hard for voters to forget.

"It's going to be a real battle," said Representative John Lewis, Democrat of Georgia. "Even if Cynthia gets the nomination, I don't think it'll be a cakewalk."

Before her ouster, Ms. McKinney received national attention for her bold comments and conspiracy theories, particularly after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

1. She was basically correct
events seem to have vindicated her, though in the future I woul recommend not taking campaign cash from groups or persons even suspected of being sympathetic to terrorism.

2. She is a hardcore lefty
Supposedly a socialist. What the woman who was quoted said was correct--we do need more politicians who will go against the grain. BUt I think this piece was an attack piece. Just look at the picture of her.

3. I agree
It mostly described what people said about her and did not cover extensively her record in the Congress.

7. I'll back up my claims
when she backs hers up. The Democratic party is in serious trouble in this state. If she wins she could be the biggest profile Democrat in the state that would just be a huge disaster! We don't need her!
