About as far from latte as one can get.

It did serve it's intended purpose in waking one up, though.

14. Because it's a caucus
Obama voters are younger, more activist, motivated types in general. They will show up at a caucus. Clinton voters, generalizing again, are older and not as tuned into the process and would show up at a primary, but not participate in a caucus.

There are 57,000 registered Dems in WY. Look and see at the end of the day how representative the vote totals in the caucus is of the entire state.

Them's the rules, and Obama will win this quite legitimately. But no one can make a rational argument that the caucuses are a method of selecting delegates that works to expand democracy and reach out to more voters. Most of them are relics of a much earlier time and will, hopefully, be abolished down the road in an effort to encourage more participation.

20. Who's complaining?
Obama is getting a well deserved win. But, the caucus system being what it is, it's not necessarily representative of the will of Wyoming voters. It may be, but if you look at the few states that held BOTH primaries and caucuses (WA and TX for example) it's pretty easy to see that there are big differences between overall voter preferences in a primary and what happens in a caucus.

24. Why is it not repesentative of the "will" of the voters? Is someone
preventing Hillary caucusgoers from showing up? Seems to me she's got about 40% right now.

31. Because if a caucus, say, attracts 20% of registered voters
and a primary attracts 50% of registered voters, it's pretty obvious which one is more representative of the actual will of the voter. OBama could very well have won a primary here, too. Probably by a much closer margin. But, we'll never know.

45. Very well said.
Each candidate knew the ground rules before they established an exploratory committee. They knew they'd have to win in the caucus format as well as the primary format.

20% and 50% are equally accurate representations of the population.

Research is done with what, 1% of the population is a statistically accurate sample.

21. You'd have a hard time making that case
There are very few, if any states, that have had a larger percentage turnout in a caucus than a primary (where the votes actually counted for delegates in the primary).

37. Not really. I would point to the large percentagge increase in caucus turnout over previous....
years, and then point to the general age category of caucus goers, who do tend to be younger.

I would then argue that younger voters are the future of the party and have the ability to grow the party base better than those of us who have been around for a while and have failed to do so.

27. No, they're just average voters
who aren't political activists. Not being tuned into the day to day happenings of this campaign doesn't mean you're ignorant and uneducated. It just means you have other concerns and priorities in your life. Of course, there are conversely some Clinton supporters who are very politically active. IF there weren't, she would not have supporters here at DU.

34. It's not a meme
it's demonstrable fact. A primary, by and large, attracts more voters than a caucus does. Empirical evidence tells us that is the case.

36. Again, caucuses are time-controlled, so that limits participation. But unless there's something
that's stopping Clinton supporters from showing up, then both she and Obama have an equally fair shot. So her losses (and wins, she's had a few caucus wins) can't really be legitimately explained away as a process issue. It just shows that her support is extremely fickle, shallow, and probably based on the Clinton brand-name.
