Tonight, in cities all across the country, thousands of supporters of the failed presidential candidate Howard Dean will gather under the banner of his new movement, which has morphed from "Dean for America" into "Democracy for America".

The doctor from Vermont, former governor and former frontrunner for the Democratic nomination is no failure in their eyes. He inspired many young voters to think about politics for the first time. Such is his support here in Seattle that two separate venues are needed for the early evening get-together.

The new website makes it clear that, although Dean has now endorsed the de facto candidate John Kerry, the distinctive, energised language of the defunct campaign lives on.

"Howard Dean has been generous with his support, beyond what we expected," says Kirsten Brost, a press officer for the Washington State Democrats. Many Democratic insiders - and all the Kerry faithful - are pleasantly surprised that Dean has not led his followers into an angry, oppositional alleyway. Indeed, they would have been even more grateful if they had been outside Seattle town hall on Monday, where a small band of Deaniacs were mounting a media-savvy demonstration against Ralph Nader.

2. Depends where you look

The Guardian and the Independent tend to be very favourable to Dean, the Telegraph and worse still the Times tend to be very unfavourable. It all depends on the bias of the UK media source really.
