Geraldine Ferraro on NPR
Edited on Wed Mar-05-08 04:27 PM by rniel
I caught a bit of this on lunch today. She's all for Hillary win sounds like. She says the super delegates should not go with the candidate that has the most delegates because republicans are allowed to vote in most state primaries so it's not really the voice of democrats anyway. If I got any of this wrong please correct me, I only caught some of the interview.

Here's a link by the way http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=87922258

1. Someone needs to explain how the GE works to her.
Apparently, repugs are only allowed to vote republican and dems can only vote for dems in Hillaryworld. Indies are forced to vote nader.

6. Are you aware of what open primaries are?
Here, let me give you a little quickie primer on this:

In Mississippi, we have open primaries. This year, McCain has been nominated by the Republican Party. The Democratic nomination is still being decided.

So many Republicans will not vote on the Republican ticket in the primary, because McCain's nomination is sealed. Instead, they'll go to the Democratic table, get a ballot, and vote for either Obama or Clinton.

Then, in November, in the General Election, they'll vote for McCain. All of those crossover votes by Republicans aren't because they really support Obama or Clinton, it's because they want to manipulate the Democratic party nomination.

That said, there will be some Independent and Republican voters who sincerely are supporting either Obama or Clinton. But in states with open primaries, especially after the Republican nomination is sealed, you can expect a lot of crossover manipulation in the Democratic primary--as you will see in Mississippi next week.

13. In Vemont we don't even have party registration
You get offered either the repub or dem ballot and that's that. And we don't want to change it. Why should we? It works for us.

3. I'd have to see proof that Republicans voted in high enough numbers to skew the election.
Further, if Republicans did vote, they voted for Hillary - they've said so.

4. That Mondale / Ferraro ticket was a mess.
Dems have this uncanny ability to pick the absolute worst candidates for president. Come on ya'll, Hillary? Are you fucking kidding?

5. She's all for Hillary win
Of course she is.

Theres a reason she spends all her TV time on Fox News, and its not because she's still a real liberal.

7. I heard that. I liked the lady who responded:
"She acts like we shouldn't worry our little heads about it, the big Superdelegates know what's best."

14. What's she talking about? Most of the Rethugs are voting Hillary, so by Ferraro's logic . . .
the Super Delegates should go with Obama.

4932354, Clinton's Wins Halt Move of Superdelegates to Obama
Posted by Tarc on Thu Mar-06-08 04:06 PM

Oh my. Well, I've never been the type to say "I told you so", but...

Ahh, fuck that, who are we kidding?

I TOLD YOU SO.

March 6 (Bloomberg) -- Hillary Clinton scored more than just three presidential primary victories this week. She also helped freeze a movement of top Democrats set to call on her to concede to rival Barack Obama.

A group of uncommitted ``superdelegates'' were ready to make a show of support for Obama by trying to pressure Clinton to give up, said Tim Roemer, a former congressman who's rounding up backers for Obama. Now, after her wins in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island, many will still back Obama without calling on Clinton to quit, he said.

Obama, an Illinois senator, aimed to knock Clinton out of the race by capitalizing on an 11-contest winning streak to claim the mantle of undisputed front-runner. The 795 superdelegates -- party officials and lawmakers who aren't bound by primary results -- are critical as neither candidate is positioned to gain enough delegates through elections to win the nomination.

``Instead of being a slam dunk for Obama, it's a horse race again,'' said South Carolina Representative John Spratt. Spratt said he's undecided after Clinton's success this week, even though Obama is his ``presumptive choice'' because his constituents backed him in the state's Jan. 26 primary.

Neither campaign is letting up. Yesterday, Clinton campaign manager Maggie Williams and adviser Harold Ickes waited outside the Senate chamber to huddle with Charles Schumer, a Clinton supporter who represents New York with her in the U.S. Senate. Clinton's husband, former President Bill Clinton, is among those making calls to superdelegates.
