Forgot about Rhode Island and Vermont -- We're States too.
I hear a lot about TX and OH in the news but have not heard anything about the camps activities in RI and Vermont.

I gather because of their lower delegate count the camps have decided to leave it to the wind to decide...the polls say: Obama is set for a blowout in Vermont.

1. I canvassed in RI
There are two things going against the states' in terms of media interest: 1) as you mention, they're small states, 2) nobody that I've seen realistically expects Obama to lose VT or Clinton to lose RI.

6. You're right
I just checked VT polling. While one poll has Hill down by "only" 14 the other two have her losing by 24-26, although one is ARG.

The whole system of caucuses and electoral college votes needs a substantial revamping. Best of everything to your candidate.

7. Clinton will win RI comfortably
Rasmussen 2/23

H 53, O 38

ARG 2/20-2/21

H 52, O 40

I don't put much stock in ARG but Rasmussen is encouraging, especially since Obama surged to within 8 in a Brown University poll right after Super Tuesday.

Without GWB getting arrested.

Vermonters know where he stands.

9. Truth is no one will campaign here
Want to know how VT stands? Hillary has raised around $50,000 here. Obama has raised over $500,000- more per capita than in any other state. In 1992, Bill Clinton only got 17% of the vote in the dem primary here.

15. In brief? Vermonters are the most anti- Iraq war people in the country
The anger here is still high. very high. All of Vermont's reps in DC, Pat Leahy, Bernie Sanders and Jim Jeffords (I), voted against it. Vermont has lost more troops per capita than any other state. I live in a very rural part of the state, The Northeast Kingdom, and in my tiny village, we've lost 2 people in that vile war. In the larger kingdom, we've lost more.

In addition, Clinton supported the NY tire burn test last year that Vermonters, including our repuke gov, were vehemently opposed to.

Then there's history. In 1988, Vermont voted for Jesse Jackson, including the Kingdom. In 1992 we voted for Jerry Brown over Bill Clinton. Pat Leahy and Peter Welch have endorsed Obama and they are very well liked. Bill McKibben has endorsed Obama, and his reputation in the environmental community here is unparalleled. It's an open secret that Bernie prefers Obama.

And just to explain how odd Vermont is, let me tell you my favorite politial story. In 1998, a rich repuke flatlander from MA, decided he could buy a Senate seat and replace Pat Leahy. He ran in the repuke primary, thinking he'd be unopposed. He wasn't. An old farmer from Tunbridge Wells, Fred Tuttle decided to run against him. He campaigned on just $10 dollars. They debated on VPR and VPT, Fred in his signature overalls. Fred asked him to pronounce Calais. Jack couldn't. Fred asked him how many teats were in a cow. Jack didn't know. Jack became the best joke of the decade. And Fred beat him. The day after winning, Fred endorsed Pat.

You cannot buy an election here. And you can't get away with voting for the IWR.

17. gosh. guilty. I love my state
I prefer it to any other. That's why I live here. Texans brag about their state. Californians brag about theirs. New Yorkers do the same. I brag on little old funky Vermont.

18. Vermont is one of the most liberal states
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 05:19 AM by TSIAS
Ironically, Rhode Island is perhaps as liberal, but it's going for Clinton.

From what little I know, Vermont seems to like candidates that go "against the grain", like Dean, Obama, and Sanders.

21. Yes they are
that's why all state's need to elevated to the power of New Hampshire and Iowa. Why do these two states get to play god in the presidential elimination process. I don't want to vote for the left overs of a couple states . Had the list of states that voted first been changed, who said the outcome would have been the same. I say no. Lets say New Hampshire had been paired with Oregon. I say the results would have been drastically different. And I find the present process offensive, since by the time the vote gets around to me; my favorite candidates are history by inconsequential states who have no right to have such a pivotal role. In fact , when it comes to Democratic politics; I'd prefer Rhode Island have a greater role in the selection process than New Hampshire.

22. yes they are. page II
Why is it states that infrequently go Democratic have such a crucial role in pre-selecting the Democratic nominee. Rhode Island deseves such over powering influence. It's one of the most reliably Democratic states.

24. Dont sense we are talking about the same thing.
The DNC has no such obligation in selecting which states go first. Certainly New Hampshire is not the least populated state. Wyoming is. Maybe you thinking how Congress awards the number of Congress members? / Party politics is a DNC matter. The DNC can let go first who ever gets the approved order. The DNC so far seems to agree. New Hampsire is ordained to have the smartest Democrats in all the country, hence its unequal power in the elimination process. New Hampshire has over one million people. Wyoming, like 400,000. So, why should Wyoming then not go first. Should we apply the least populated standard. Wyoming is so representative in Democratic politics.
