Help! Is it me or is Kerry losing steam?
Maybe it's the vacation. Maybe it's the fact that my wonderful govt workplace has blocked DU but it feels like Kerry has been out of the press for too long. Is everything going OK?

1. Its just you.
Kerry's got the Big Mo. He's raising money, building a vast coalition, and rising in the polls.

14. I am with you and anyhow the papers are busy trashing Bush.
Kerry is just resting and thinking up what to do next. Time we had a rest from him so every one could get really sick of seeing Bush every place telling fibs.

10. He is wisely staying out of the current Bush train wreck.
So he isn't in the news much. It is a smart idea, as he doesn't want to politicize the 911 hearings.

36. That's not a bad idea come to think of it. Let the 911 train wreck
ride over Dubya if it's going to. At least I hope it does anyway. I'm skeptical that this is just going to be a dog and pony show with no results but I'm holding out hope that something will come of it.

11. No, it's not just you
It was the consensus view of the political media that last week as a bad week for Kerry. And what the political media says is reality for all practical purposes, since the vast majority of Americans don't pay close enough attention to these things to make their own determination.

Lets look at the facts -- Kerry was on vacation. The Bush campaign rolled out more negative ads. The Kerry campaign appeared to be on the defensive (and again, appearances are reality for all practical purposes). I think it was obvious to everyone -- except for a few die-hards around here who were in denial -- that the Bush campaign was driving the coverage last week.

Of course, this week is a different story. Now the Bush campaign is on the defensive, because of the Clark story. So hopefully people will forget about last week.

13. So...
Kerry's losing steam because he had a bad week last week?

You think it was so bad that he's still losing steam now over it? Or was it a past tense thing and therefore no longer true?

12. Kerry is smartly laying low right now
That my opinion of it. Any advantage he would get by some firebreathing in Bush's direction (while the hearings are going on) will be outweighed by the damage he'll incur to himself by looking petty and uncaring.

Remember, we do not HAVE a Party-Loyal Sub-Media to launder our lies and push Corporate TV Pravda into saying that "1 + 1 =3" is just another opinion.

15. Can't use all your ammo
now. If he can keep 4 points up at least until he announces his VP choice he's in good shape. He will get a boost with the naming of VP. If Kerry has a solid 6 point lead at the convention, we're in good shape

16. We will see a resurgence of steam
a) with each new anti-$hrub book to come out.

b) when the Veep is named.

c) in response to the Freeper convention.

Expect ebbing and flowing throughout the campaign. Don't worry about low points until we hit mid-September. If he seems steamless then, we've got problems.

23. Kerry wasn't involved.
Kerry had no part in the plot to kill US Senators, and it was rejected overwhelmingly by VVAW. So what does it matter?

29. LOL
VVAW was an organization of angry, disillusioned men who had just come back from Vietnam. Of course some held unpleasant views. But John Kerry sure as hell didn't. So why blame him for something he didn't support?

Kerry also lied about his attendance at that meeting.

Oh bullshit. No he didn't.

To me, Nader seems like a better choice in that he's honest.

Honest? Honest about his connections with Grover Norquist? Honest about his mistreatment of his own employees? Honest about his role in getting Bush elected in 2000? I can't think of anyone on the political stage today who is less honest than Ralph Nader.

27. Now that the debates are over, Kerry is sliding closer to Bush
He needs to remember whose support it is he needs. The Republicans to whom he's reaching out with his attacks on Chavez aren't going to vote for him.

There are an awful lot of Chavez opponents in South Florida. They care very much about this. Kerry knows what he's doing and he's absolutely right.
