campaign donations
I've already donated $100.38 to the Kerry campaign. I'm planning to donate more on payday. Here's my question:

If there is a fundraiser/dinner/etc. that I can actually afford to attend (<$500), does that count in the $2000 limit? I doubt I'll contribute the full $2000, but $1000 is not unlikely.

Thanks for any info or links on this matter.

1. If your multiple donations are all to "John Kerry," then yes.
You can donate separately to your county party, the state party, and the national party (as well as to individual candidates) if you want to, though.

Each campaign or org keeps detailed records of your donations. If they accidentally accept an amount over the legal limit from you in an election cycle, they pay heavy fines.

3. Yes
Campaign dinners are fundraisers - the amount you spend counts as a contribution. Some of those dinners - there's one tonight that's going to raise $10,000,000 - are actually for the DNC rather than Kerry. And for them you only have to worry about a $25,000 limit.

4. Call your local Kerry campaign office
I would suspect there will be a campaign fundraiser soon in NY. Just ask them to put you on the next mailing list and I'm sure someone will call you.
