To our supporters and friends…thank you.
This campaign has been, from the beginning, funded by people just like you, people who have a vision of what our country should, and can, be. Your generosity and commitment to your ideals has helped us to raise over 6.4 million dollars. The money has come from thousands of citizens in all fifty states and a good number of US territories…not from corporate PACs or two-thousand-dollars-a-plate dinners. The staff here in Cleveland has worked long hours entering the thousands of small checks that have comprised your contributions. Once again, thank you.
Your donations have enabled us to alter the substance of the debate taking place within the Democratic Party. Issues such as truly universal healthcare; the importance of redefining our trade agreements to reverse the flight of jobs off of our shores; the illegitimate invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq. These issues have come to the forefront of political debate within this country because of you and like-minded people across this great nation.
With your help this campaign, this movement, has raised more money in each successive quarter since Dennis entered the race. It is a testament to you, our supporters, that, despite the odds, we are now in a stronger position than ever.
We are well aware that Senator Kerry is the presumptive nominee. But the primary season is not over yet, there are 15 states that have a voice, where the voters have not yet been heard. The direction of the Democratic Party platform, the platform we will use in our efforts to unseat President Bush, has yet to be determined.
Strong showings in the remaining states for the progressive policies of your candidate will help us on the Convention floor. You can show the Convention the strength of your beliefs. You can make it possible for your united voice to be recognized.
Your efforts have enabled us to come this far, but the finish line still awaits. Let me tell you some numbers….in the first quarter of 2003, you contributed over $187 thousand dollars. In the second quarter you astounded the pundits by delivering an amount of over 1.5 million. The third quarter showed your determination and hope as we raised over 1.7 million. In the fourth quarter you did it again by raising over 2 million once matching funds were added in.
We are now approaching the end of the first quarter of the current year. You have, once again, impressed the country by raising over 1.5 million. While others have begun to look forward to November, you have showed, without a doubt, that your concerns are not yet being heard.
Dennis has pledged to take your concerns to the Democratic Convention, to let them be heard, to make them be heard. Your help is still needed as we approach Boston. Please continue to donate as you have, in numbers that have made a huge difference. Speak to your friends, your family, about our movement. Invite them to take part. With your help we can arrive in Boston with an impact that will make your voices be heard loud and clear.
